2. Name and explain the first zone of the ocean biome.
The intertidal zone is located between the high tide and low tide. It is difficult for organisms to
survive here because of the extreme loss of water during low tide and the intense wave action.
3. Name and explain the second zone of the ocean biome.
The pelagic zone is also known as the open ocean. This zone is located from the coast to the
middle of the ocean. In the open ocean you will find dolphins, sharks, whales, and any other
living thing that can float or swim in the ocean.

The benthic zone is also known as the shallow ocean. In the shallow ocean you will find sunlight
that reaches to the ocean floor to allow organisms to live and grow. This is an area where coral
and kelp forests form.

The abyssal zone is also known as the deep ocean. The deep ocean is dark and cold. Organisms
that live here require less sunlight because this area is so deep that sunlight cannot reach it.
