Short Story Project
For the last project of the year, you will work with a group on a short story of your
choice. Stories can be found in your British Literature book or you may use a short story
by any contemporary British author (you must get teacher approval for your choice of
story). There are several written requirements and an oral presentation at the completion
of the project. All work should be completed during class time, and everyone in the
group is required to participate in the oral presentation.
Requirements:
I.
Choose a story from the purple British literature book. Each group must have
a different story, therefore, be prepared with a second choice. You may
choose from the following stories in the book:
 The Rocking-Horse Winner – 1006
 Araby – 1022
 A Cup of Tea – 1034
 The Duchess and the Jeweller – 1046
 The Demon Lover – 1157
 At the Pitt-Rivers – 1199
 A Sunrise on the Veld – 1210
 The First Year of My Life – 1220
 The Distant Past – 1263
 Civil Peace – 1274
 Six Feet of the Country - 1289
II.
Each group member should read the story.
III.
Analyzing the Story – You will receive a worksheet with questions for
analyzing the story. Be sure to provide textual evidence from the story to
support your answers.
IV.
Plot Summary Worksheet – You will need to summarize your story in detail
using the worksheet provided.
V.
Author Bio – You will need to write a 1-2 paragraph bio on your author.
Include any information on family, education, major works and
accomplishments, and other interesting facts.
VI.
PowerPoint –You will take the information from the plot summary worksheet
and the author bio and make it into a PowerPoint presentation. Create a
different slide for each part of the plot and for each character. Also include
the explanation for your visual on the last slide.
VII.
Visual – You will need to create a visual for your story. The visual must have
some significance to the story that will be explained during your oral
presentation. You may not just print pictures off the Internet.
VIII.
Oral Presentation – Each group will be assigned a date to present their story.
Presentations must include the following:
- Every member of the group must take on a speaking role
- A summary of the story
- An explanation of the visual
