King & Queen Scholarship Contest Program
The Stafford NAACP King & Queen Scholarship Contest was established in an effort to involve
the entire community in one of the most important goals of the organization, which is to provide
education opportunities through scholarship to students in the area and to help the branch
operating expenses so that better service can be provided to the community (e.g., back-to-school
and stay-in-school programs). The King & Queen Scholarship Contest consists of programs and
activities that support the mission of the NAACP. Each component is strategically planned to
integrate relevant challenges, issues, and concerns with practical solutions, techniques, and life
skills to enhance development. The program components that may be covered during the program
include the following:

Description
The King & Queen Scholarship Contest is a comprehensive introduction to
the NAACP and the program. The Stafford NAACP President and its
members officially welcome the participants and their parents.
The fundraising workshop will teach the participants the most appropriate
way to identify, ask, and receive funds from supporters. The workshop will
also review the finances and collection of fees form.
The program workshops are designed as seminars with formal instruction
and/or facilitation to create an exciting cultural, educational, and social
experience for the participants. Workshop topics may include civic
engagement, education, health, financial, and justice and may include
speakers or panelist, interactive team assignments, and take home
assignments to build upon workshop lessons.
The King & Queen program participants will participate in a community
service project with NAACP members.
Participants will learn the importance of advocating to improve quality of life
through active participation in the community and public service including
voting and voter education.
The promotion of academic excellence will be explored through scholarships
for college, study skills, college life, and motivational learning.
The King & Queen participants will learn individual wellness through
focused prevention including fitness and healthy eating.
The cultural events will provide participants exposure to social and multiethnic experiences. The events will provide unique opportunities for
community and interpersonal development.
Participants will learn financial literacy, including budgeting,
homeownership, and entrepreneurship.
The goal is to promote the advocacy for and advance a better public safety
system that reduces the reliance on prisons as a means of solving social
problems and advances effective law enforcement.
