QUESTION 1 (a) General comment on the performance of learners in the specific question. Was the question well answered or poorly answered? All the questions in Question 1 were generally well attempted. Question 1.5 was generally poorly answered. In general candidates did well in this section. The questions were well structured and the marks accumulated by the candidates in this section were somewhat a good indication of how they were likely to perform in the rest of the paper. Teachers could emphasise that candidates must not leave blank spaces. Some candidates gave more than one possible answer for the MCQ. Could it be possible to do away with the loose answer sheets? (b) Why was the question poorly answered? Also provide specific examples, indicate common errors committed by learners in this question, and any misconceptions. Candidates need to do the Forms of ownership more. They really struggled with all the forms of ownership. ( c) Provide suggestions for improvement in relation to Teaching and Learning Teachers who are marking this syllabus and those who had an experience of teaching this syllabus should be approached to teach the Adult learners. I think that with tuition by an experienced educator, these candidates should stand a better chance. 1 (d) Describe any other specific observations relating to responses of learners Some learners write in general terms as if they were not even exposed to a textbook. Others seem not to even have done the subject at school. The paper was fair for a person who was exposed to the learning material and a relevant tutor or educator. Some candidates exceeded the number of questions to be answered. (e) Any other comments useful to teachers, subject advisors, teacher development etc. They must revise old question papers and also visit the WCED website for information with regards to examination question paper. QUESTION 2 (a) General comment on the performance of learners in the specific question. Was the question well answered or poorly answered? In general candidates responded better to this question. (a) Why was the question poorly answered? Also provide specific examples, indicate common errors committed by learners in this question, and any misconceptions. Focus more on amalgamation. ( c) Provide suggestions for improvement in relation to Teaching and Learning Study should be used as another of study material. (d) Describe any other specific observations relating to responses of learners Learners could not formulate full sentences when answering questions. (e) Any other comments useful to teachers, subject advisors, teacher development etc. 2 QUESTION 3 (a) General comment on the performance of learners in the specific question. Was the question well answered or poorly answered? Generally well answered question. (b) Why was the question poorly answered? Also provide specific examples, indicate common errors committed by learners in this question, and any misconceptions. ( c) Provide suggestions for improvement in relation to Teaching and Learning Focus on the required study guides and old question papers . (d) Describe any other specific observations relating to responses of learners The candidates were unable to apply their knowledge. (e) Any other comments useful to teachers, subject advisors, teacher development etc. The trend of the question paper must be detected .There is an attempt to link the theory to practice. 3 QUESTION 4 (a) General comment on the performance of learners in the specific question. Was the question well answered or poorly answered? 1. Candidates struggled to differentiate between question 4.1.1 and Question 4.1.2. (b) Why was the question poorly answered? Also provide specific examples, indicate common errors committed by learners in this question, and any misconceptions. TTA ( c) Provide suggestions for improvement in relation to Teaching and Learning The candidates must be taught how to attempt this question .The instructions are not read properly. (d) Describe any other specific observations relating to responses of learners (e) Any other comments useful to teachers, subject advisors, teacher development etc. The module on financing must have a focussed approach .Candidates knew the work but were unable to reason with insight .Most of the answers were from experience. 4 QUESTION 5 (a) General comment on the performance of learners in the specific question. Was the question well answered or poorly answered? Could not understand the way in which some of the questions were posed, especially Question 5 – lots of responses about the oranges. (b) Why was the question poorly answered? Also provide specific examples, indicate common errors committed by learners in this question, and any misconceptions. C ( c) Provide suggestions for improvement in relation to Teaching and Learning Candidates must be given practice in class as to how to analyze and answer these questions .The structure of this question caused learners to perform below par .The candidates could not transfer their knowledge to a given situation. (d) Describe any other specific observations relating to responses of learners The analysis of a data response question should enjoy more attention in class (e) Any other comments useful to teachers, subject advisors, teacher development etc. 5
