The position is accredited by the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) for training in the subspecialty of Gynaecological Oncology. Qualifications: Mercy Hospital for Women MBBS or equivalent; Advanced trainee in obstetrics and gynaecology. Exercise due professional care in the management of patients who may be allotted to him/her within the limits of his/her own competence and experience. Undertake such duties as the Head, Gynaecological Oncology may determine either by roster or from time to time as occasion may demand. The Fellow in Gynaecological Oncology will be expected to: Supervise and manage inpatients under the care of the Unit in conjunction with the consultant in charge. Ensure that ward rounds are undertaken each day for all inpatients under the care of the Unit. Supervise junior medical staff working in the Gynaecological Oncology Unit Attend all Oncology and Dysplasia outpatient clinics. Attend all Gynaecological Oncology operating sessions Conduct a dysplasia treatment clinic Ensure that all new patients referred to the Unit and all Mercy Hospital for Women Fellow in Gynaecological Oncology 2 Key Result Areas Standard Measures Key Activities operative cases are discussed appropriately in the weekly multidisciplinary management committee Ensure that treatment related information is conveyed to referring doctors and other relevant health professionals in a timely manner. Be available after hours for urgent consultations about patients of the Unit Ensure that the Unit clinical audit data is up to date and accurate. Develop a relevant research project in conjunction with the consultant members of the Gynaecological Oncology Unit The Fellow in Gynaecological Oncology will: Ensure effective lines of communication are maintained. Mercy Hospital for Women Well informed patients & staff working in a harmonious environment Learn advanced surgical skills that are necessary to function as an independent specialist in Gynaecological Oncology Become competent in the investigation, diagnosis and management of pre-invasive disease of the genital tract Learn chemotherapy management of gynaecological cancers to a point where independent management decisions about such treatment can be formulated and instituted. Develop a clear understanding of the physics, rationale for use, side effects and outcomes of radiotherapy in the treatment of gynaecological cancer. Develop a comprehensive knowledge of the subspecialty as outlined in the subspecialty handbook of the RANZCOG. Have regular feedback about performance as outlined in the RANZCOG subspecialty training manual. Have the opportunity for teaching and training of other medical and nursing staff. Accurate completion of discharge summaries and coding sheets. To advise the Head, Gynaecological Oncology as early as possible when unable to attend to rostered duties because of sickness, accident or other event or if it is necessary to leave the hospital during a period of duty. Inform the Head, Gynaecological Oncology as soon as possible regarding: any incidents that occur of a medico-legal nature, any complaints received from patients or relatives, any problems in regard to the provision of services and equipment for the care of patients. Obtain permission of the Head, Gynaecological Oncology if it is necessary to leave the hospital during a period of duty. Any other duties as will be laid down from time to time by the Head, Gynaecological Oncology. Make such reports and issue such certificates as are necessary by the nature of the appointment. Maintain a proper record of symptoms, examinations and treatment of all patients allotted. Complete departmental request forms for diagnostic purposes in accordance with departmental and hospital regulation. Participate in research programmes undertaken by the Gynaecological Oncology unit.
