YIO151 Contextual Grammar I (ECTS Credit 4)

Becoming aware of the relations between higher-level language structures and words;
increasing an awareness of how meaning is created through language form; analysing higherlevel language structures on text and context level; establishing relations between forms and
text types; producing higher level texts by analysing these grammatical structures and using
them in context.
YIO153 Advanced Reading and Writing 1 (ECTS Credit 6)

To present authentic academic texts particularly written on ELT in terms of meaning and
structure; to develop reading subskills that require the use of highly developed thinking skills
like analysis, synthesis,and evaluation; to practise academic and professional writing skills;
to present applied study skills of various academic rhetorical forms such as writing a
composition, an essay and a report.

The use of certain listening texts ranging from current affairs to academic contexts ; the
development of advanced level listening sub-skills and the study of stress, intonation and
phonemic differences; an emphasis on both the attainment and the articulate use of the
phonetic alphabet ; the significance of accuracy in pronunciation for the foreign language
teacher.

YIO 454 Poetry: Analysis and Teaching (ECTS Credit 5)

This course is an introduction to poetry interpretation and evaluation. We shall discuss how
poetry differs from prose in several respects, such as its economical language. intense
emotions it evokes, its less direct, more suggestive and ambiguous language. We shall
consider poems with a variety of themes and styles. A discussion of how poetry can be used
in ELT classrooms will also be included.
