Step 1 - Selection of Issue
Either the issue will be assigned to you by your teacher who will use the ministry of education
curriculum document OR you can propose to your teacher an issue an appropriate alternative.
Issue _________________________________________________________________
Teacher’s initials ________
Step 2 - Research the topic. Find at least 3 scientific sources. Consider the rubric and the bolded box
on your Research Worksheet given to you by your teacher. You will need to defend your choices of
sources during your presentation.
Step 3 - Record the information as you research in the provided “Research Worksheet” that you
will submit after your presentation. To ensure that the information is not plagiarized, information
should be paraphrased in your own words as you record it. Any facts recorded should be referenced to
the source. Consider as you research the following different possible viewpoints – cultural, ecological,
economical, educational, esthetical, ethical, health and safety, historical, political, recreational,
scientific, social, and technological.
Step 4 - Prepare a presentation using software (keynote, PowerPoint, Google docs) – of a maximum of
4 slides each outlining the researched facts which support your opinion. A ninth slide will be the title
page for the presentation. Each presenter must have at least one graph in their presentation. During the
presentation students will be expected to record notes on the topic which may be used in a future test.
The total length of the presentation should be 5 - 10 minutes and will take place at the beginning or
end of class.
Slide 1 – Title with the names of presenters
Slide 2 - Summary of sources (URL’s or in bibliography form). Presenters will need to defend
the validity of their sources.
Slide 3 – Any relevant background information to support your opinion. Each presenter should
focus on the background that would benefit their argument.
Slide 4 and 5 – Develop your argument in logical way highlighting the facts researched which
support your opinion.
Slides 6 to 9 – Second presenter’s slides (similar to slides 2 to 5 except for their viewpoint)
