Presidential Scholarship Application
Scholarship Criteria:
Criteria for awarding the scholarship are cumulative GPA of 3.40 on a 4.00 scale and ACT composite of
25 or more OR cumulative GPA of 3.40 on a 4.00 scale and SAT score of 1130 with a critical reading
minimum score of 470 and math minimum score of 490.
On a separate sheet of paper, please write an essay on the following topic. The essay must be typed,
double-spaced, using 12-pt Times New Roman font, and a minimum of 500 words. Please do not bend
or fold any of the required documents in this packet.
Discuss a special accomplishment that sets you apart from others and describe how this
accomplishment relates to your intended field of study and/or future goals. Also discuss what
accomplishments have prepared you to become an advocate for social justice (people improving other
people’s lives) in your community which is a key focus at our institution.

Philander Smith College only awards a small percentage of Presidential Scholarships annually to firsttime, full-time freshman which makes this opportunity extremely competitive. If you would like to be
considered for this scholarship, please adhere to the scholarship deadline of March 1, 2015 and submit
all the required documents associated with this prestigious scholarship.
Please note that this scholarship application and all the required documents associated with this packet

Presidential scholarship applicants will be notified in writing by April 15, 2015 of the College’s decision.
