JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Programmes Manager, Corporate Partnerships – Maternity Cover Scale / Salary: £35,000 Responsible to: Director, Programmes and Education Responsible for: Projects Manager, Economics Projects Manager, Legal Pension: 5% employer’s pension contribution Annual Leave: 28 days per annum plus bank holidays Location: Central London Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week Normal office hours are 9.00am to 5.30pm Minimum 6 months maternity cover BACKGROUND The Citizenship Foundation is an independent charity which aims to empower individuals to engage in the wider community through education about the law, democracy and society. Founded in 1989, we focus particularly on developing young people’s citizenship skills, knowledge and understanding. Our work includes: Citizenship resources for a wide audience from teachers to young offenders; Nationwide and international training programmes; National active learning competitions for secondary schools; Community projects to develop citizenship education as a collective responsibility; and Research to advance our understanding of best practice in citizenship education. At present, the Foundation has 30 employees and is supported by several consultants and volunteers. It is lively and informal with a conscientious and diligent staff. MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB This description gives a broad overview of the role. Exact duties will be negotiated and agreed once the successful candidate starts in post. To manage the corporate partnerships team (currently eight people) and the strategic development of the organisation’s corporate partnership educational programmes. In particular, to develop the flagship legal and economic educational programmes, including the Bar National and Magistrates’ Court Mock Trial Competitions, Lawyers in Schools and Paying for It, as well as new projects and programmes. MAIN DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES LEGAL PROGRAMMES Mock Trial Competitions Having run for the past 20 and 17 years respectively, the Bar National and Magistrates’ Court Mock Trial Competitions are the Citizenship Foundation’s flagship legal education programmes. Over 9,000 young people take part in these active learning competitions each year, using real court rooms across the UK, and supported by over 1,000 barristers, judges, magistrates, court staff and solicitors. Oversee the management of these longstanding programmes and, in particular, the relationship with existing and potential funders. Liaise with the fundraising team, where necessary, to secure additional funding – in particular for the Magistrates’ Court Mock Trial Competition. Work with the mock trials team to improve the accessibility and impact of the competitions. 2 Lawyers in Schools Established in 1999 in partnership with Linklaters, qualified and trainee solicitors, paralegals and legal executives from 27 law firms and in-house legal teams now take part in Lawyers in Schools working with approximately 1,000 13-16 year olds. Oversee the management and development of the Citizenship Foundation’s flagship employee volunteering programme, including its offshoots, such as Local Lawyers in Schools, designed specifically for smaller law firms. Create and manage the delivery of the marketing strategy for recruiting more law firms and in-house teams. Oversee the account management of the participating law firms and in-house teams. Develop and implement Lawyers in Schools – Europe, in partnership with a group of participating law firms and European third party organisations, adapting the Lawyers in Schools model and resources in order to add value to the delivery of public legal education in other European countries. ECONOMICS PROGRAMMES Paying for It Established in partnership with Aviva in 2007, Paying for It is the Citizenship Foundation’s flagship economic awareness programme. As well as a dedicated website, it offers free teacher training, lesson plans, the Chance to be Chancellor online tool, and an employee volunteering programme for Aviva volunteers. Oversee the management of Paying for It, including the account management of Aviva and the delivery of the three year sponsorship agreement. Advise on, and support the Paying for It team with, the development of the programme – including, in particular, the employee volunteering model, which is delivered in-house by Aviva. 3 PROGRAMME DEVELOPMENT Develop, in partnership with corporate and/or other charity partners where relevant, and manage or deliver as required, new and existing educational projects, programmes and pieces of research, including: o an advocacy and communication skills training programme (which forms part of Linklaters’ Linking work with learning programme); o JudgEd – a pilot programme funded by the Civil Justice Council to provide engaging legal educational resources for judges to deliver in schools; o Make it our Future – inspiring young people to engage with the regeneration of their local area; o Participatory Budgeting – providing training for young people and teachers to take control of a part of their school’s budget o research projects to determine the levels of young people’s legal capability and economic awareness. Maintain and develop relationships with other related organisations and contacts in order to create new, and develop existing, projects, programmes and pieces of research. ORGANISATION WIDE Be a member of at least one of the working groups; Produce and work to, in conjunction with relevant team members, an annual business plan for all corporate partnership team programmes; Provide a quarterly report for the Corporate Partnerships team (against the business plan) for the Board of Trustees; Work with partner organisations on behalf of the Citizenship Foundation; Represent the Citizenship Foundation in public forums, at conferences, events and meetings; Provide information for the Citizenship Foundation website and those of partner organisations; Provide, or oversee provision of, reports for funding partners; Contribute to disseminating best practice and promoting education for citizenship where appropriate; Respond to enquiries about the work of the Citizenship Foundation and citizenship education in general from teachers, youth workers and other individuals and agencies; Contribute to staff meetings, consultations and management meetings, to help shape the strategy, policy, practice and future development of the Citizenship Foundation; Carry out other tasks as agreed with your line manager. 4 PERSON SPECIFICATION Job Title: Post Requirements Education, training and experience relevant to post Programmes Manager, Corporate Partnerships Essential (E) Desirable (D) E A degree, ideally in a citizenship related subject such as law, social science or humanities. E Experience of project and programme management and development in a relevant sector. E Experience of managing a team (ideally including management of managers) and line managing team members. E Experience of developing and managing strategies, policies and budgets. E Experience of managing employee volunteering/engagement programmes in a corporate or related setting. Experience of fundraising-related activity, including writing project proposals and making pitches to prospective funders. E Administration (report writing, IT skills). E Knowledge and understanding of citizenship education, participation, empowerment and youth work. E D Experience of marketing in the education, youth, community or related settings. Experience of managing websites. Experience of training or managing the training of adults in a corporate or related setting.
