Summary: Dr Chen joined the University of Greenwich in September 2007 as a senior
lecturer in civil engineering, after having worked at Imperial College and obtained PhD
from Glasgow University. Dr Chen currently leads a research team in infrastructure
management with six researchers. He has been working for over 15 years on the
performance assessment of civil infrastructure, in particular stochastic deterioration
modelling and reliability analysis. Dr Chen is the PI of over 10 research projects related
to adaptation to changing environments, structural health monitoring, predictive
deterioration modelling, and life cycle analysis and management. Dr Chen is the author
of over 100 journal and conference papers, and has around 10 years’ experience in UK
civil engineering industry as a Chartered Civil Engineer. Dr Chen’s research has attracted
close collaborations from leading industry including HR Wallingford, Mineral Products
Association, and TWI, in particular his recent research on performance assessment of
flood defence infrastructure funded by the Natural Environment Research Council and
the Institution of Civil Engineers for supporting decisions by the Environment Agency.
