Dear colleagues,
As local hosts and Chairpersons of 4th BBBB Conference,
it is our great pleasure, to invite you to participate in 4th BBBB Conference entitled:
NEW TRENDS IN DRUG DISCOVERY, DELIVERY SYSTEMS AND
LABORATORY DIAGNOSTICS that will be held in Bled in autumn 2011.
The Scientific Committee has made a special effort to compile a programme which
incorporates the interests and orientations expressed by participants of preceding BBBB Conferences
and include new topics at the cutting edge in the pharmaceutical sciences. This year it is the first time that
three different scientific fields are joining - Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Technology, and Laboratory
Diagnostics. The programme of the 4th BBBB Conference is designed for researchers, pharmacists,
clinical chemists and other health allied professionals with interests in new drug design and discovery, delivery
systems and diagnostic approaches.
Plenary lectures will represent the interdisciplinary platform that put together different parts of
pharmaceutical science and will focuse on cooperative approach from diagnosis to drug therapy, through
translational medicine to safer drugs. The presenters are pioneers and opinion leaders from academia,
laboratories and pharmaceutical industry. Their lectures will provide starting-points for fruitful conference
presentations and discussions.
Drug design and discovery topics will cover natural products, design of small molecule modulators
of enzymes, receptor and transporter protein action as well as multitarget drug discovery. Progress in
kinase-selective inhibitors which are at the forefront of targeted cancer therapy will be reported. Past lessons
and future challenges in designing safer drugs in order to reduce attrition rate will be addressed.
Within manifold topics of drug delivery systems the progress in oral modified release dosage forms,
starting with polymers through theoretical view to the analysis and production, will be presented. Some
aspects on not-so-distant future drug products like design and production of biopharmaceutical nanomedicines
will be reported. Based on this reports it shall be discussed what are the nanoscience technologies
at hand for solving this challenges.
In laboratory diagnostics the new challenges in discovering and monitoring leukemias, endocrine diagnostics,
cardiovascular and other diseases will be shown. The diagnostic usefulness of new and old diagnostics
markers as well as on new strategies for the diagnostics and treatment monitoring of patients will
be adressed critically. Upon returning home the participants will be able to discuss the current advances
of diseases biomarkers used in laboratory diagnostics.
Additionally, a major goal of the Conference is to facilitate and reinforce networking between academia
and profession, and students as well. To guarantee the quality of future research and new practical
applications, exchange and discussion between experienced colleagues, young scientists and professionals
must be enthusiastically promoted.
We are cordially welcoming you in Bled!

About Bled
Bled is a municipality in northwestern Slovenia in the region of Upper Carniola. The area
within the Julian Alps is a popular tourist destination. Bled is known for the glacial Lake Bled,
which makes it a major tourist attraction. Perched on a rock overlooking the lake is the
iconic Bled Castle. A small island in the middle of the lake is home to the Assumption of
Mary Pilgrimage Church; visitors frequently ring its bell for good luck. Human traces from
prehistory have been found on the island. The town is also known in Slovenia for its vanillaandcream pastry called kremna rezina or kremšnita. For highlights of the area please visit
www.bled.si/en/.
About Slovenia
Slovenia is the only country in Europe that combines the Alps, the Mediterranean, the Pannonian
Plain and the Karst in a beautiful, small, green package that you will be able to experience
in organised tours (link www.zidanamarela.si/BBBB): trips to Capital Ljubljana, 20-km
long Karst cave system of the Postojna Cave, unconquerable Predjama Castle, emerald
beauty of river Soča, already mentioned Triglav National Park and more together with degustation
of excellent Slovenian wines and tasty culinary specialties will make 4th BBBB
Conference unforgettable experience.
