Lenten Appeal 2015 “The Mystery of Lent”
Dear Teacher
The season of Lent may seem a long way off, but at the Catholic Children’s Society we are already
preparing for next year’s Lenten Appeal. We are inviting all Catholic schools across the Diocese of
Westminster to be involved in 2015, and would love your help in making this the most successful
Lenten Appeal ever.
The theme of our appeal is “The Mystery of Lent”. Focusing on the true meaning of Lent, we hope
to encourage students to reflect on the stories of Jesus’ life and relate these to questions about
what is right and wrong in our society today.
As in previous years, we will issue individual collecting boxes which we ask you to distribute to
pupils. We would really appreciate it if you could encourage students to gather as much support as
possible, whether that be from home, in school or within their community. In addition to a
collecting box, each of your pupils will receive a workbook on “The Mystery of Lent” where they
can complete a series of activities over the 6 weeks.
Prezi presentations, lesson plans and extra worksheets will be available for you to download from
the CCS website before Christmas. The resources are in no way prescriptive, they are there to
extend and integrate the workbook activities into full lessons if you so wish. Please feel free to
adapt and tailor the activities to suit your students’ needs.
To extend the Appeal into homes as well as school, we are also providing copies of “The Mystery of
Lent” calendar. This calendar will suggest activities for each day of the 6 weeks, encouraging
students to do kind acts for others, such as contributing to their collecting boxes, saying a prayer or
trying a new activity.
If you would like your school to participate in our 2015 Lenten Appeal “The Mystery of Lent”
please complete and return the attached order form. Materials are set to be delivered by December
2015.
