San Leandro Scholarship Foundation Scholarships (the Green form!) – Seniors, have you turned in your green SLSF application yet? This one application makes you eligible for hundreds of local scholarships! Last year, the Scholarship Foundation gave out over $170,000 in scholarships to over 85 San Leandro High School seniors at Senior Recognition Night. Turn in your application as soon as possible. The final deadline is March 31, 2015! 3. American College Foundation Scholarship – one-time scholarships from $1000 - $5000 for answering an essay prompt and turning in certain information. Students in 9th-12th grade are eligible to apply. The application deadline for the 2015-2016 year is April 1, 2015. More information is on http://www.americancollegefoundation.org/. 4. Middle Class Scholarship Program – California residents who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or have AB 540 status can receive partial tuition scholarships to UCs and CSUs if their families make below $100,000 per year. The scholarships are based on a sliding scale according to your family’s income and will cover up to 20% of tuition costs for the 2015-16 school year and up to 30% of tuition costs for the 2016-17 school year. You are automatically considered for this scholarship when you apply for FAFSA! 5. San Leandro Teachers’ Association Scholarships – 20 to 25 scholarships for SLHS seniors, chosen by a committee of San Leandro Unified teachers. Applications are available between March 2 and March 20th and the application requires a GPA above 2.5, two letters of recommendation from teachers, and an interview. Applications are available in the Counseling Office and must be turned in to Mrs. Olson by March 27, 2015. NEW! 6. Bay East Foundation Scholarship Program – scholarships for seniors in Alameda County with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applications are available at http://www.bayeast.org/membership/programs/foundation and are due before May 6, 2015. 7. Young Filipino Professional Association Scholarships – 3 $2000 scholarships for seniors who are involved in the Filipino community and have excelled in school and are leaders. To qualify, students must have a 3.5 GPA or higher and be accepted to a 4-year college. Finalists will be interviewed on the weekend of April 18, 2015 and scholarship recipients will be asked to read their essay in front of an audience. Applications are available in the Scholarship Box in the Counseling Office and are due before April 1, 2015. 8. California CAWA Scholarships and SEMA Scholarships – over 2500 scholarships for up to $5000 for students pursuing a career in the automotive industry! Apply at www.automotivescholarships.com and at www.sema.org/scholarships for two different sets of automotive scholarships. The applications are due before March 31, 2015. 9. United Parents Scholarships – scholarships for students whose parents are members of the high school’s United Parents Group. Applications are available in the Counseling Office and are due before March 31, 2015. NEW! 10. San Leandro Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary Scholarships - $1000 scholarships for SLHS seniors who are going into the field of medicine and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The application requires three letters of recommendation and must be mailed before April 3, 2015. Some of these scholarships went unclaimed in past years because not enough students applied! Don’t miss out! NEW! 11. Anita Baskervill-Harris Scholarships - $500 to $2000 scholarships for outstanding African American seniors who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and financial need. Applications are available in the Scholarship Box in the Counseling Office and are due before March 27, 2015. NEW! 12. Aspiring Animation Professional Scholarship Program – a $1000 scholarship for students interested in pursuing an animation career path at a college or university. Applications are available at http://www.animationcareerreview.com/animationcareerreviewcom-aspiring-animation-professionalscholarship-program and are due before June 1, 2015. 13. Cabrillo Civic Club Scholarships – scholarships for seniors of Portuguese descent who have a 3.5 GPA or higher and have participated in at least 3 extra-curricular activities while in high school. Applications are available in the Scholarship Box in the Counseling Office and are due before March 15, 2015. 14. Don & Roy Splawn Charitable Foundation Scholarships – $1000 scholarships for seniors who have a GPA above 2.6, financial need, and who have paid or unpaid employment and community service. Applications are available at www.fsrequests.com/splawnscholarship and are due before April 15, 2015. New! 15. Aspiring Fashion Professional Scholarship – $1000 scholarships for seniors interested in pursuing a fashion degree at an accredited college. Applications are available at http://www.fashion-schools.org/ and are due before June 1, 2015. 16. Aspiring Animation Professional Scholarship - $1000 scholarships for seniors interested in pursuing an animation career path at an accredited college. Applications are available at http://www.animationcareerreview.com/ and are due before June 1, 2015. 17. Kappa Alpha Psi Berkeley Fraternity Scholarships – 3 $1000 scholarships will be awarded to African American or historically underrepresented students attending college. Students should have a 3.0 GPA or higher and be active in community service. Applications are available at www.kapsi-berkeleyalumni.org and are due before March 28, 2015. 18. California Wine Grape Growers Scholarships – two 4-year, $8000 scholarships and four 2-year $2000 scholarships are offered to children of vineyard employees working in the 2014 or 2015 wine grape growing season. Applications are available at www.cwggf.org and must be postmarked by March 27, 2015. 19. Italian American Federation Scholarships - $500 scholarships awarded to seniors of Italian ancestry with good academic records and evidence of leadership and character. Applications are available at www.italianamericanfederation.com and are due before March 15, 2015. 20. Kaiser Permanente Asian Association Scholarships – seven $3,500 scholarships for seniors who have brought demonstrable, tangible benefit to an Asian community and have the potential to be future leaders. Students must have a GPA above 2.5. Applications are available at: https://www.scholarsapply.org/kpasianassoc and are due before March 30, 2015. NEW! 21. Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival Scholarships – two $2000 scholarships will be awarded to seniors of Japanese American descent who are active in their community and have above a 2.5 GPA. Applications are available in the Scholarship Box in the Counseling Office and must be postmarked before March 14, 2015. 22. Italian Catholic Federation Scholarships - $400 scholarships for seniors of Italian descent who have a GPA of 3.2 or higher. Applications are available at www.icf.org and are due by March 15, 2015. 23. Nisei Student Relocation Commemorative Scholarships - $500 - $2000 scholarships for students of Vietnamese, Cambodian, Laotian, Mien or Hmong ancestry whose families’ lives were disrupted by the Vietnam War. Applications are available at www.nsrcfund.org and are due by March 15, 2015. 24. FIDM Scholarships – the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising offers scholarships to students who plan to attend FIDM and are involved in DECA, ROP, or their school’s FIDM Fashion Club. More information is available at www.fidm.edu/go/fidmscholarships and are due before April 30, 2015. 25. Omega Psi Phi/ Sigma Iota Fraternity Scholarships – scholarships for African American seniors who are enrolled in a four year college for the fall, have a 2.5 GPA or higher, are involved in community service, and have good ethical principles. Applications are available in the Scholarship Box in the Counseling Office and are due before April 1, 2015. NEW! 26. Elks Scholarship Program for Students with Disabilities - $2000/year renewable scholarships for seniors who have a physical, neurological, visual, hearing, or speech-language disorder, are citizens, and have financial need. Applications are available at www.chea-elks.org and are due before March 15, 2015. 27. Tzu Chi Scholarships - $1000 scholarships for students who have financial need, a GPA of 3.0 or above, and community involvement. Applications are available in the Scholarship Box in the Counseling Office and are due before March 2, 2015. 28. Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Foundation Robert T. Nahas Scholarship – 2 male and 2 female awardees will be selected for $4000/year renewable scholarships. To be eligible, students should have competed in a competitive sports program for at least 2 years, have proof of admission to a 4 year accredited college, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, have a record of community service, be a resident of Alameda County, and be a native born U.S citizen. Applications are available in the Scholarship Box in the Counseling Office and are due before April 30, 2015. 29. Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Foundation George P. Scotlan Scholarship – 3 awardees will be selected for $4000/year renewable scholarships. To be eligible, students should have a minimum GPA of 3.0, have a record of community service/involvement, be a resident of Alameda County, have proof of admission to a 4 year accredited college, have financial need, and be native born U.S. citizen. Applications are available in the Scholarship Box in the Counseling Office and are due before April 30, 2015. 30. Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Foundation Ann & Jon Reynolds Scholarship – 2 awardees will be selected for $4000/year renewable scholarships. To be eligible, students should have a minimum GPA of 3.0, have a record of community service/involvement, be a resident of Alameda County, have proof of admission to a 4 year accredited college, have financial need, and be native born U.S. citizen. Applications are available in the Scholarship Box in the Counseling Office and are due before April 30, 2015. 31. CSEA Scholarships – scholarships for seniors who are children of California School Employees Association (CSEA) members. Apply at csea.com/scholarships or call (866) 487-2732 to request an application. Applications are due before March 1, 2015. 32. Construction Financial Management Association Scholarships – scholarships for seniors who will be pursuing a finance or construction related degree. Applications are available in the Scholarship Box in the Counseling Office and are due before May 1, 2015. NEW! 33. Lend A Hand Foundation Dise/Gardere/Smith Scholarships – three $1000 scholarships for seniors who have financial need and will assist the less fortunate after college. Applications are available in the Scholarship Box in the Counseling Office and must be mailed by April 30, 2015. NEW! 34. Wujek Memorial Engineering Scholarships - $1000 scholarships will be offered to seniors going into engineering in memory of Joe Wujek, a UC Berkeley professor who taught Engineering Ethics. CAA/EAS Youth Scholarship Program – scholarships for seniors who are children of active duty law enforcement and fire service personnel. Applications are in the Scholarship Box in the Counseling Office and are due before March 27, 2015. NEW! 36. Student-View Scholarships – to apply for these random drawing scholarships, simply log on to www.student-view.com and complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in your area. Apply on-line before April 22, 2015. 37. Fluegelman Prize – each summer, the Andrew Fluegelman Foundation, based in Berkeley, CA, awards new Macintosh laptop computers to deserving seniors who have GPA’s above 3.0, who have overcome significant economic, social and family hardships, and who have contributed to their communities by participating in after school and community programs. Applications are evaluated on the basis of need and upon the excellence of the required essay (1200 to 2000 words). Stanford High School Summer College Horizon Scholars Program – exceptionally talented, low-income students in the Bay Area are invited to earn college credit at Stanford this summer. Fifteen students who are 16 – 19 years of age and receive free or reduced lunch will be chosen for this opportunity to attend the Summer College at no cost. More information is available at: https://summercollege.stanford.edu and applications are due by March 1, 2015. 39. Stanford Summer Humanities Institute, Stanford Youth Orchestra, and High School Summer College – students in grades 10 to 12 can apply for these summer enrichment programs held at Stanford this summer. Apply soon at precollegiate.stanford.edu 40. Metropolitan Transportation Commission Summer Internships – internships in the Bay Area paying $12.25/hour for high school students who want to pursue a career in engineering. Applications are available at www.mtc.ca.gov/jobs/high_school/ and are due by March 8, 2015. NEW! 41. UC Davis Young Scholars Summer Program – UC Davis offers summer research opportunities in the biological and natural sciences for 40 high achieving students who will be rising juniors or rising seniors during the summer of 2015. Students will reside in university dormitories June 21 – Aug. 1, 2015 and will work closely with university research faculty on individual projects. Students will also enjoy weekend field trips in northern California and lectures on current issues in scientific research. Applications are available at http://ysp.ucdavis.edu and scholarships are available on a needs based sliding scale. Applications are due before March 19, 2015. 42. Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) Scholarships – NROTC scholarships are worth $180,000+ and include full tuition and fees, a book allowance, and a monthly stipend of $250-400. Eligible students can choose from over 150 colleges and universities. Students must earn at least a 22 composite on the ACT or 1000 Math and Critical Reading score on the SAT. After completing your degree, you must serve 5 years active duty in the Navy, or 4 years active duty in the Nurse Corps or Marine Corps. 43. Preview Weekends at Southern Oregon University – tour the campus and residence halls, meet with faculty in your major, explore resources and facilities, and experience campus dining! Parents and guests are welcome! Sign up on the SOU website. Preview Day: April 3, 2015. 44. Visit http://www.cappex.com/scholarships and fill out your accomplishments and interests. Cappex will match you up with colleges and scholarships. They also have a very helpful feature called “College Admission Scattergrams”: just type in the name of a college you’re interested in, and it will show you a visual “scattergram” of students who were accepted or denied based on their GPAs and SAT/ACT scores.
