“William Hill (20 Aug 1818-16 July 1905) married Jane Vint (02 July 1821-10 Oct 1890).
Had 12 children, including Joseph, Emma, James. Lived in Port Hope and moved to Winfield
(Peel tp.) in 1870. Moved in early 1870s and I have lost them. Joseph is my line, he married
Juliette Friar in 1870 in Port Hope, Ontario.”

of dropsy. Listed as a merchant’s wife, and buried with her husband at Cross Cemetery.
---------------------------------------------------John Vint and a female over 16 (presumably his wife, Jane) first appear in the Hope Twp. 1822
census. By 1823, there is also an under-16 female in the household: possibly Jane, as the Jane
who married William Hill would have been born at this time, according to both her census
entries and death registration. By 1830, there were four under-16 females in the family, one of
whom might have been Jane. (In his Will, he names four daughters – Jane, Elizabeth Ford(d),
Agnes Haw(d), & Ann Crawford.)
