VERLOUIS FORSTER RECEIVES WORLD SIMMENTAL FEDERATION HONORS
BOZEMAN, MT. Verlouis Forster, Smithfield, NE, has been recognized with
the prestigious 2015 World Simmental Fleckvieh Federation (WSFF) Golden Book
Award.
In his own words, Verlouis Forster, patriarch of Forster Farms, located at
Smithfield, in the south-central sector of Nebraska, is “semi-retired.” The holder of
ASA membership number 4220, Forster has been producing Simmental cattle since
1972.
Throughout his tenure with Simmental cattle, he was actively involved in
local, state and national cattle activities, culminating in a productive six years on the
ASA Board of Trustees from 1998 to 2005. He was instrumental in adoption of
several key programs as a dedicated advocate for the Progress Through
Performance (PTP) Program and Total Herd Enrollment (THE), while vigorously
supporting junior programs.
Forster Farms has provided volumes of carcass data to ASA on the cattle they
fed and sent to slaughter and had the distinction of registering the 500,000th
Simmental in 1979. They also have a long history of promoting their cattle at state
fairs and the National Western Stock Show. Forster purchased his first Simmental
bull from the famed Bar 5 herd out of Canada. His seedstock cattle, with a focus on
meeting the needs of the commercial cattleman, have been marketed continuously
through a production sale held in late January for the past 36 year.
An ardent champion of tested and proven cattle, Forster and his sons have
diligently worked to improve calving ease throughout the years, while moderating
frame size and maintaining high levels of performance.
Presentation of the 2015 Golden Book Award was made at the Chairman’s
Reception during the ASA Annual Meeting and Convention, January 18, in Denver.
The American Simmental Association is headquartered in Bozeman,
Montana, and maintains the breed registries for the Simmental and Simbrah breeds
of cattle. ASA has an active adult and junior membership of nearly 5,000.
