We would like to hear from Members who would support these sessions so that we can then try to arrange the venue around the geographical demand. Please write to the secretary giving the following details, where would be your ideal location; what WH classes you would be entering next year; and any other information you feel would help us to put together a series of sessions that would benefit as many of our members as possible. Summer Show For another year, the Summer Show on Saturday, 11th June at the scenic setting of Strathallan Castle was blessed with good weather. This year, we amalgamated again with the BSPS Scottish Branch – something which has not been done since our days at Kinross House – and had an excellent ‘Showing Weekend’. Amalgamation with the BSPS certainly benefited both Societies – not just from a financial perspective as all ground costs were shared, but also from an entry one as many people attended both shows. Similar to other shows this season, our entries in certain classes on paper were good, but received a poor turnout on the day. This, however, did not detract from the quality of ponies forward, nor from those in the various qualifiers and championships. How this situation can be overcome is a difficult one, but we trust all those who did exhibit enjoyed their day. Congratulations to those who won major Championships and Qualifiers and we wish them success at the various finals. Once again, it was noted by all that the showfield was left clean and tidy at the end of the day and the Committee’s thanks go to all who attended for achieving this. Thanks must be made to those who assisted with the setting up and dismantling of the showfield. Also to those who stewarded and provided other assistance on the day – thank you for giving up your time. I know it is continual reiteration, but without such help, a show will not run. The NPS Scotland Committee had a ‘greeting meeting’ soon after the show and many things relating to it were discussed. Hopefully as a result of this meeting, any problems will be ironed out for 2006. If you have any other matters relating to the show – whether they be suggestions, comments or criticism - which you would like us to look at and discuss, can you contact Alicia Hay so that we can look at them. It is the Committee’s wish to bring the show forward and it is your ideas that will help us to achieve this. This is at a very reasonable rate in comparison to sourcing it independently. However, this years premium has increased by a massive 150% . Regrettably as you will understand we need to pass this on to the exhibitors. The cost for First Aid cover at the Youngstock and Spring Show will be £2.00 per exhibitor, and £3.00 per exhibitor at the Summer Show to cover additional Veterinary and Farrier cover. Can Anyone Help? Does any member have two potato boxes available that they would be willing to donate to NPS Scotland to store the stobs and ropes in required for the rings for the summer show? If you can help, please can you contact Alicia Hay as soon as possible. Olympia Qualifier Champions Congratulations to the ponies and their owners/producers who to date have so far gained the coveted ‘ticket to Olympia’ at mixed breed M&M qualifying rounds. Scottish Successes at Malvern This year there are three Scottish shows allocated a qualifier for the NPS/Baileys Horse Feeds Mountain and Moorland Supreme Ridden (Olympia) Pony of the Year. The following Scottish Members and their ponies were successful at the NPS Championships at Malvern in August. Scotland was second in this competition, only beaten by 2 points and won £400 for NPS Scotland. It is not an onerous job and I am happy to give any help that I can to whoever takes it on. Tweetie Nimmo NPS Scotland Youngstock Show Our Youngstock Show will be held on Saturday, 19th November at Devon Equestrian Centre, Fishcross. We once again have the very generous support of Rotherwood Furniture Limited who have sponsored all the class prize money. There will be cash prizes for the various Champions and Reserve Champions kindly sponsored by Ballinton, Kilmannan and Fourmerk Studs. The judges are Mrs Pat Stirling – Highland Ponies, Hunters, Coloureds and Riding/Hunter Ponies and Mrs Sheila Clark – Shetland ponies, and Mountain and Moorland ponies. Entry fees will be £4.00 prior to the closing date and will also be taken on the day at double the entry fee and up to 30 minutes before the relevant class commences. Schedules are enclosed with this newsletter and it is hoped this show will be well supported. NPS Scotland Finals at Blair Atholl Although rain was the forecast for the day, the Finals of the NPS Scotland Kilmannan Stud Novice Ridden Championship, NPS Scotland Baileys Horse Feeds Open Ridden Championship and the NPS Scotland Scottish Countryside Alliance WHP Championship were blessed with a dry, but somewhat windy, day. Entries were up on 2004 and we had a good turnout of exhibitors in all classes. We have not discussed the Finals at a Committee Meeting yet, but if you have any comments to make, please can you do so to Alicia Hay as soon as possible. Thanks, as usual, must be made to all those who assisted with the running of this event and for stewarding the various classes. Again, without your help there would be no show. Thanks to to the sponsors – Kilmannan Stud, Baileys Horse Feeds and The Scottish Countryside Alliance – for their continued support and to Ballinton Stud for kindly sponsoring the Championship of the WHP Final. The organisers of Blair too must be thanked for all their input.
