Barber was born November 18, 1898, in Syracuse and died September 23, 1968. He married Ruby
Walker in 1919 in the Salt Lake Temple and divorced her in 1928. He married Ruby Bateman in 1929; the
couple was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1931. Barber owned a hauling company and later sold cars.
He served in various capacities in the LDS Church.

Alice Evelyn Kent was born April 14, 1868, in Bountiful, Utah, and died March 10, 1930. Charles
Barber was born in the Chiddingly parish, Sussex, England, on January 30, 1863, and came to Utah in
1876. He married Alice Evelyn Kent in 1886. They lived in Syracuse, and she operated the first ice-cream
parlor in the community. In 1931, following the death of his wife, he married Esther Sessions.

John Richard Barnes was born July 28, 1833, in Sandy, Bedfordshire, England, to William Barnes and
Elizabeth Jeffries. He married Emily Shelton in 1853, the same year they came to the United States,
eventually arriving in Kaysville, Utah. He later married Elizabeth Geaves and Emily Stewart. Barnes
owned a co-op and other businesses, including a bank (the accounts of the businesses he founded are
chronicled). From April 30 to June 22, 1888, Barnes was incarcerated for the practice of plural marriage;
he was pardoned by President Grover Cleveland. Barnes died January 21, 1919, at his home in Kaysville.

Louisa Jane Wilson. She died November 24, 1995. Mark and Viola were married in 1932.

William Simpson Cook was born February 2, 1827, in Kincardine, Scotland, to David Cook and
Margaret Simpson. He came to Salt Lake City in 1851. Christina Bowman was born April 11, 1837, in
Abbotshall, Scotland, to William Bowman and Margaret Snaddon. She came to Salt Lake City in 1853.
William and Christina were married by Brigham Young in 1854. They moved to Syracuse in 1862.
William died March 28, 1915, and Christina died April 25, 1915.

Gloucestershire, England, on July 20, 1848. Her family joined the LDS Church while in England and in
1863 came to America, arriving in New York. They came to Utah the same year. Hannah married
Christopher Layton in 1865, becoming his eighth wife. Hannah died October 5, 1889, and is buried in the
Kaysville cemetery.

Joseph Stoker Thurgood was born August 22, 1899, in Syracuse to Thomas James Thurgood, the first
mayor of Syracuse, and Elizabeth Regena Stoker. Mary Neva Harris was born August 2, 1903. They were
married June 14, 1922. Joseph died October 26, 1980.

and Phebe Layton. Her father died December 10, 1916, of infected tonsils. Her mother subsequently
married Frederic Evans in 1919. Evans died April 18, 1942. Her mother married Calvin L. Minchey six
years later. Neva herself married Joseph Thurgood on June 14, 1922. Joseph died October 26, 1981.

David Henry Wilcox was born October 8, 1905, to William Henry Wilcox and Emily Barber. Ann
Burnett was born February 14, 1907, to Samuel Henry Burnett and Cathern Mitchell. David and Ann were
married December 22, 1927. David died July 16, 1979. Ann died January 20, 1981.
The log cabin in which David spent his first seven years is now on the property of the Syracuse
Museum. Much of the agricultural machinery in the museum’s possession was donated by the Wilcox
family.
