1. Are you depressed? Have you stopped getting your period?

Women who are currently depressed and have not had their period for at least three
months are needed for a research study at Massachusetts General Hospital. Participants
cannot be on oral contraceptive (birth control) pills, and must be 18-45. The study looks
at the role of cortisol and other hormones on bone health. Study participants will come to
Massachusetts General Hospital for three visits: two outpatient visits, and one overnight
stay. Research participants receive a physical examination, nutritional and body
composition analyses, hormonal evaluation, and bone density information at no cost.
Participants also receive reimbursement of local travel/ parking costs, as well as up to
$150 for their participation.
2. Can Salt Affect the Blood Vessels?
Brigham and Women’s Hospital is investigating the effect of salt on blood vessel
function.
We seek healthy men 18-45 years old.
This research study will last about 3 weeks and involves a few overnight stays in the
hospital, blood sampling, meals, and blood vessel testing.

3. Post-Pregnancy Research Study
Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Endocrine-Hypertension Division, seeks women who
have had pregnancies complicated by high blood pressure in the past 10 years.
Participants cannot be currently pregnant. Research study includes an oral glucose
tolerance test, fasting blood tests and two non-invasive vascular studies. Takes about 5 ½

4. Smoking Cessation and Relapse Prevention Research Study
Do you want to quit smoking once and for all?
Have you been smoking 10 or more cigarettes a day for the past 6 months?
If you are a female between the ages of 18 and 65, you may be eligible to participate in
our research study at no cost to you. The study involves an 8-week smoking cessation
phase, where you will be given free nicotine patches to help you quit smoking. If you are
able to successfully quit smoking after 7 weeks of nicotine replacement therapy (i.e. the
patch), you will enter into the 5-week relapse prevention phase of the study where you
will stop using the patch, and you will be randomly assigned to receive an investigational
drug that may be an effective treatment in helping prevent recently quit smokers from
relapsing or placebo (i.e. inactive medication).

Study participation involves weekly or biweekly visits to our clinic at Massachusetts
General Hospital and the completion of computerized and behavioral tasks at three points
throughout the 15-week study. Additional compensation will be provided.

5. Do you think you might be at risk for diabetes? Does anyone in your family have

If you are interested in participating in a new research study…We need your help!
The Center for Human Genetic Research at Massachusetts General Hospital seeks men
and women over the age of 18 who are NOT currently on diabetes medication for a
research study exploring the influence of genetic background on the response to
established type 2 diabetes treatments. Participants will be asked to visit the hospital
twice in seven days. The total time commitment is five hours for the first visit and three
hours for the second visit. Compensation will be provided up to $100 plus two $5
transportation vouchers and a free meal.

You may be eligible to participate in a research study at Brigham and Women’s Hospital
to see if melatonin supplementation can help lower your blood pressure.
Earn up to $ 2 , 0 0 0 . 0 0 if you are:

35-65 years of age

Taking at least 50 mg of Atenolol or at least 100 mg of Metoprolol per day

Otherwise healthy
- Participants will undergo a medical screening, including a sleep screen, which can take
up to 3 weeks.
- After the screening, the study will take approximately 6 weeks during which you will
spend two separate four-day stays at our facility at Brigham and Women's Hospital to
monitor sleep, blood pressure, and various hormones.

Healthy Volunteers needed for research study on Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
Are you scheduled for a screening colonoscopy at MGH?
Massachusetts General Hospital, Crohn’s and Colitis Center, seeks healthy volunteers,
ages 18 years and older, for a research study to increase understanding and learn more
about what may cause IBD and what factors influence the course of IBD over time. We
also need to study healthy volunteers who do not have IBD.

Participants should be able and willing to provide blood samples and should not have any
other immune mediated diseases, such as asthma, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus or
multiple sclerosis. This study involves only 1 study visit, which consists of a brief
physical examination and interview, a urine sample, questionnaires, and a blood draw for
approximately 1½ tablespoons of blood. You will be given $25 for the study visit.

8. Healthy Volunteers needed for a study on chronic sinusitis:
We are seeking healthy volunteers without secondhand smoke exposure for a research
study to learn more about chronic sinusitis. You may be eligible if you: 1) are between
21-70 years old; 2) are in good health, 3) have never smoked, and 4) do not have: nasal or
sinus disease, allergic rhinitis, asthma, previous sinus surgery, or ongoing exposure to

9. Do You Have Asthma?
The Asthma Research Center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital is recruiting asthmatics
aged 18-75 who use asthma medication to control their asthma symptoms. The research
study involves 13 visits (2.5hrs) over a 13-week period. The study is looking at how
inhaled medicine, albuterol and placebo (contains no active medication) and acupuncture
improve lung function. Participants are compensated up to $750.00 at the end of the

10. Seeking men and women diagnosed with schizophrenia
Researchers from the Massachusetts General Hospital, Psychiatry Department seek men
and women ages 18-65 that have a diagnosis of schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder
and are treated with clozapine (clozaril). This twelve week research study examines the
effects of aripiprazole, an antipsychotic medication, on lipid and glucose metabolism, as
well as body composition when added to clozapine. We are interested in learning
whether aripiprazole improves how the body manages blood sugar and/or decreases
cholesterol and triglycerides and thereby decreases the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular
disease in subjects receiving clozapine treatment. Participants are compensated up to

11. Seeking men and women diagnosed with schizophrenia
Researchers from the Massachusetts General Hospital, Psychiatry Department seek men

examines the effects of ramelteon, a sleep aide medication, on waist circumference,
