ACS NEXT GENERATION LEADERS AND
STUDENT/RECENT GRADUATE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEMBER
2013 APPLICATION PROCESS
The American Constitution Society is pleased to offer its student and 2013 graduate members two opportunities to enhance their
engagement in the organization’s work: the ACS Next Generation Leaders program and service for a two-year term on the ACS Board
of Directors. Following the selection of the 2013 class of ACS Next Generation Leaders, the ACS Board of Directors will extend an
invitation to one ACS Next Generation Leader to serve on the ACS Board of Directors for a two-year term.
SELECTION CRITERIA: All rising second and third-year law students and 2013 graduates who are current national members of
ACS are eligible to apply. The ideal candidate:







Is or was a leader or member of the board of his/her ACS student and/or lawyer chapter;
Has a demonstrated understanding of ACS’s mission;
Is an active and productive member of his or her chapter;
Is a dedicated member of ACS’s national community as demonstrated by regular cooperation and coordination with the
national office regarding programming, coordination with other chapters in his/her city or region, engagement in national
programming initiatives and attendance at one or more ACS national convention(s);
Is committed to continuing engagement with ACS after graduation from law school;
Has the maturity and judgment to serve as an ACS Next Generation Leader and/or as a member of the Board, with all the
fiduciary duties the position entails; and
Has the time, energy, ability and commitment to engage fully in the opportunities afforded to Next Generation Leaders and to
attend Board meetings, participate in committee work and raise funds.

APPLICATION: Interested members should submit the following materials to the ACS national office by Friday, March 22, 2013:
 Completed nomination form (located below);
 Personal statement, setting out (briefly; no more than 1 page) your record of service to the organization, why both you and
the organization would benefit from your service as an ACS Next Generation leader and/or member of the Board of Directors
and your plan to transition to a lawyer chapter following graduation. If applying for the Board, what perspective you would
add to the Board;
 Resume
 List of relevant references (no more than 3); and
 1 Recommendation letter
RECOMMENDATION: Interested members must submit one recommendation letter or have it submitted by Friday, March 22,
2013. A letter of recommendation should be from a faculty member, colleague familiar with your ACS involvement or lawyer leader
in your chapter or former chapter.
Please scan and include all materials (including recommendation, if available) in one packet. If your recommender wants to send the
letter separately, please (1) have him or her email the letter to us at campus@acslaw.org or mail the letter to the address below no later
than March 22, 2013 and (2) indicate in your application packet that you have a recommendation that was sent separately.
Recommendations must be received by March 22, 2013. Only completed applications will be considered. Applications should be
emailed to campus@acslaw.org OR postmarked no later than March 22, 2013. Mail to: The American Constitution Society, Attn:
Office of Student Chapters, 1333 H St. NW, 11 th Floor, Washington, D.C. 20005.
Selection Timeline: ACS will accept application packets through March 22, 2013. Recommendation letters are also due by March
22, 2013. Selected interviews for Board consideration will take place thereafter; all students selected for board interviews must be
available in person in Washington, D.C. on June 13, 2013, 8:45 a.m. – Noon. Note: All applicants will receive correspondence
from the national office regarding the status of their application. Please do not hesitate to direct questions to Student Chapters in the
