Notes on example data set for paper Visualising multilevel models: the Initial Analysis of Data
The file ETHNIC.LSP contains a subset of variables from the data set analysed in (Haque & Bell,
2001). The variables included in this sample set are as follows:

Info
AFRICAN
Dummy variable, 1 if pupil’s mother born in Africa, 0 otherwise
BANGLA
Dummy variable, 1 if pupil’s mother born in Africa, 0 otherwise
Case-numbers
Identifies the pupil
INDIAN
Dummy variable, 1 if pupil’s mother born in Africa, 0 otherwise
MEANGR
A measure of performance at age 16
OTH
Dummy variable, 1 if pupil’s mother born in Africa, 0 otherwise
PAKIST
Dummy variable, 1 if pupil’s mother born in Africa, 0 otherwise
SEX
Dummy variable. O – female, 1 - male
TOTSAT
A measure of performance at age 14
UK
Dummy variable, 1 if pupil’s mother born in Africa, 0 otherwise
SCH
Identifies the school the pupil attended
(Note the letters in SCH do not correspond to those in the conference paper)
