Gerard after having been in Transylvania says: "More decidedly evil is the nosferatu, or vampire, in which every
Romanian peasant believes as firmly as he does in heaven or hell." (The Land Beyond The Forest, published 1888)
In this TOUR OF DRACULA you will follow the traces of Vlad the Impaler known by everyone as Dracula, see the
house where he was born in Sighisoara, pass through the cities where he has left behind, in agony thousands of
enemies impalled and hang, see the capital of Wallachia, Targoviste and the capital of today, Bucharest-name
given by Vlad himself.
We will also see the ruins of the Poienari Castle, from where Dracula's wife killed herself by throwing herself in
the Arges River. You won't miss the cities Brasov and Sibiu,the most beautiful medieval cities of Romania, linked
with the Impaler's name,then Medias city with his famous tower where Vlad was kept prisoneer, then the Bran
Castle, used as a fortress, reaching in the end the real Dracula's Castle in a mysterious land,near Tihuta Pass.
Here in Bram Stoker's novel,in the end, Dracula is killed and from that moment his spirit never finds its peace.
Even if in the end of the tour you will see the place where Vlad the Impaler was burried, on an island in a center of
the lake Snagov,after years his body wasn't found there anymore...
So his spirit goes on, so as the legend of Dracula...
Day 1 – Bucharest.Welcome to Dracula's country.The story begins.
Transfer from the airport to the hotel. Bucharest panoramic tour by night including: the Arch of Triumph , the
brother of the one in Paris, the People’s Palace , the biggest in Europe, the Revolution Square, site of the popular
revolution in December '89 with the beautiful Atheneum Palace and the former Royal Palace, Victoria Avenue,
Kiseleff Avenue, Lipsani area - the historical center of Bucharest. Here we will visit the Old Princely Court in
Bucharest and its treasure from the time of Vlad Tepes.
Dinner in an interesting restaurant called " Count Dracula " where you are surrounded by torches, skulls and
paintings in a mysterious atmosphere eating Dracula’s specititleies / or in one of the best traditional restaurants in
Bucharest " Caru cu bere " dinner with show. Overnight in Bucharest 3* hotel, in a historical house situated in a
residential area full of villas.
Day 2 - Bucharest - Curtea de Arges - Poienari - Sibiu ( 300km )
In the morning departure to Curtea de Arges, a small town but with a great legend ( the legend of Manole ). Curtea
de Arges is considered to be the most beautiful monastery from the Central Eastern Europe made by Prince Neagoe
Basarab in the 16th century and by its famous master builder Manole.
Afternoon departure to the Fortress of Poienari built by the boyars who subsequently were impaled by Dracula.The
castle Poienari is also witness to the suicide of Vlad’s first wife when she threw herself from the tower in the river
Arges . ) There are 1480 steps waiting for you to get to this fortress.
Next direction: Sibiu, the charming medieval town from the middle of the Carpathian Mountains with which, during
his reign, Dracula had an important business relationship. Traditional dinner and overnight in Sibiu, 3 * medieval
hotel city center.
Day 3 - Sibiu - Alba Iulia - Turda ( 150km )
In the morning city tour of Sibiu, the European Capital of Culture in 2007. During the visit passing by the old streets
we will admire the main monuments like Bruckenthal Palace, in Baroque style, from the late eighteenth century , the
infamous Lies Bridge made on a road that connects the lower city with the upper city, the Saxon Cathedral built at the
beginning of the sixteenth century that retains more than a precious fresco of Crucifixion from 1445 , the Catholic
Cathedral built in Baroque German style at the beginning of the eighteenth century , the main squares of the city ( Big
Square, Little Square, Huet Square ) and the seat of the Christian Orthodox Cathedral – the Metropolis of
Transylvania.
In the afternoon departure to Alba Iulia, the historical and spiritual capital of Romania. Here on 1st December 1918
was proclaimed the national unity between Transylvania and Romania and formed the Great Romania . Visit of the
citadel of Alba Iulia in Vauban style and Cathedral of the Unification a beautiful Roman Catholic Church with
elements from Walachia and Moldova. Then we arrive in a 4 * medieval castle in Turda where we can relive the
atmosphere of the medieval times. Dinner in one of the salons of the castle and overnight in Turda castle.
Day 4 - Turda - Cluj - Bistrita - Tihuta ( 150 km )
In the morning departure to Cluj Napoca an important cultural, industrial centre, a multi-ethnic city where live
together Romanians, Hungarians and Germans. We will visit the ruins of the ancient Roman city Napoca, the St.
Michael Catholic Cathedral built in Gothic style in the 14th century, the Municipal Theatre and the Christian Orthodox
Cathedral built in Neo Byzantine style in the early 20th century.
Then we go on to Bistrita. Here we enter the real land of Dracula. No other place is so identifiable as the place of
vampires, ghosts and bloody scenes the Bargau step, Tihuta, that connects Transylvania to Moldavia. This wild and
mysterious place was used for the setting of the movie "Dracula" by Coppola.
Dinner and overnight in Tihuta in Dracula’s Castle, the 3* hotel built on the ruins of the Royal Castle of Dracula.
In the film based on the novel by Stroker ,Vlad the Impeller died here. Despite his death, his spirit never found its
peace.
Day 5 - Tihuta - Targu Mures - Sighisoara (250 km )
Departure to Targu Mures, a Romanian - Hungarian cultural city. The center is dominated by the Roses Square, the
Palace of Culture, the Prefecture, the City Hall and many other buildings in Art Nouveau and Empire style.
We continue to Biertan Citadel a typical example of fortress - church - family, one of the 300 fortified churches built
between the 14th and the 16th century. Arrival in Sighisoara and dinner in Count Dracula restaurant, in the same
house where Vlad Tepes was born.
Overnight in Sighisoara, in the citadel in a medieval 3* hotel , near Dracula’s home/ or for the nature and horse
riding lovers in a rural 3* complex situated 7 km from Sighisoara.
Day 6 - Sighisoara - Brasov - Poiana Brasov ( 100 km )
After breakfast visit of the fortress city of Sighisoara one of the few inhabited citadels in Europe, which retains its
medieval centre on the top of the hill. There are several defensive towers that surround the city named after the trades
of their builders: the Tailors Tower, the Shoemakers tower etc all dominated by the Clock Tower, situated in the
middle of the citadel.
Departure to Viscri, a charming Saxon village, hidden behind the hills and the forestsof Transylvania and protected
by its citadel. ( Unesco Patrimony ) Arrival in Brasov, a medieval town known as the "The crown city "the city of
merchants and craftsmen. Hunter’s dinner and overnight in Poiana Brasov in a beautiful mountain resort 12 km
from Brasov, in a 4* castle hotel name "House of Dracula / or if you prefer going out later dinner and overnight in
Brasov center in 4* villa in medieval style.
Day 7 - Brasov - Bran – Targoviste - Bucharest ( 180 km )
After breakfast starting from the beautiful Council Square we will have the tour of the historic center, enhanced by
civil and religious buildings, such as the Black Church , the largest Gothic church in Romania, the Council House
from the fifteenth century, rebuilt after the great fire from1689 in Baroque style , the St. Nicolas Church combining
the Gothic style in the exterior with the Byzantine style in the interior, the Museum of the First Romanian school in
Scheii Brasovului hiding a great treasure of old books and manuscripts, the Gates Schei and Ecaterina that used to
separate the Romanian from the Saxons in the time they were the patrons of the city.
Just over the mountains that surround Brasov , during Dracula’s campaigns against the rich local merchants, were
placed the dying bodies, in agony. Departure for Dracula's Castle in Bran, a veritable fortress built on the top of a
rock. Vlad used to use the castle as headquarters for his incursions in Transylvania.
We continue to Targoviste, the capital of Wallachia during Vlad Tepes. The first Princely court was built by Mircea
the Old , the grandfather of Dracula. After that he add the tower of " Chindia “. Targoviste remembers the day when
the boyars were called to a party in the town and they were asked if they want to be relieved of their difficulties . As
the response was affirmative Vlad had them burn all so that no one would have more to suffer.
In the evening arrival in the capital and special farewell dinner in a traditional restaurant. Overnight in Bucharest,
3* hotel downtown area.
Day 8 - Bucharest and go back home. End of story...
In the morning if the weather is fine we go directly to Snagov Lake, near Bucharest, where in the center, in an isle
there is a small monastery in which Dracula was buried in 1476. During an archaeological research in 1930 they found
that there were only horse bones in the tomb. Where is the body? It seems that Dracula has never found the peace
... Transfer to the airport and flight home.
