Some Psychotherapist Applications (anonymised) (MC = Membership Committee) HR – not accredited by AHPP. 2007-2008 HIPS course (newly accredited course); some prior dialogue re training; applied to AHPP after certificate but before diploma; was advised it was a promising application but premature & further year’s practice needed; a meeting to discuss this was offered (HR is an Associate). HR rejected response stating had now gained UKCP registration from the HIPS organisation. CM – not accredited by AHPP. 2008 Non-HIPS courses. From pre-discussions he provided detailed course info. MC decided that training hours totalled enough but was bitty and not an “in-depth psychotherapy training”, confirmed by case study not reflecting adequate training, nor the large amount of own therapy. Agreed to do written work & MHFP. Application rejected & advice given. CW1 - accredited by AHPP. 2007-2008 HIPS & non-HIPS courses. From pre-discussions he provided some course info. Accredited on condition completes written work within next year; CW then supplied the written work which was accepted as of high standard. CW2 – not accredited by AHPP. 2007 Non-HIPS courses. From pre-discussions he provided detailed course; training was assessed as inadequate (as psychotherapy training), confirmed by case study; too little own therapy; questionable humanistic orientation. Applicant (an Associate) responded questioning assessment. MC maintained its assessment. MC minutes include a general reflection on how assessments are conducted. MH – not accredited by AHPP. 2004 HIPS & non-HIPS courses. Assessed as mainly non-psychotherapy training. CE – not accredited by AHPP. 2005-2006 HIPS course. Initially rejected as inadequate training, and marginal case study; appealed to HIPS and was allowed a second application. HIPS trainer replied (2nd time of asking) that CE’s case study had twice been failed; we consulted Ext Modr, who had slightly more assessment. Application rejected, with applicant dissatisfied we’d contact her HIPS training organisation. Excerpt from the MC minutes give best summary of this long case. KC - accredited by AHPP. 2008 Non-HIPS courses known to Membership Committee. Accredited on condition completes written work within next year.
