Sten Hagberg is Associate Professor of Cultural Anthropology, Uppsala University.
Based on long-term field research in Burkina Faso since 1988, his thematic fields have
included dispute settlement, environment, development, poverty and political violence.
Current research considers the politics of recognition and political culture in Burkina
Faso. Main publications are Between Peace and Justice: Dispute Settlement between
Karaboro Farmers and Fulbe Agro-pastoralists in Burkina Faso (1998), Poverty in
Burkina Faso (2001) and the co-edited Bonds and Boundaries in Northern Ghana and
Southern Burkina Faso (2000) together with numerous articles on forest perceptions,
national politics and voluntary associations in Africa, Development and Change, Journal
of Modern African Studies, Cahiers d’Etudes africaines and Africa Today or as chapters
in books.
