Head of Senior School Mathematics (TLR2) This is an exciting opportunity to lead a dynamic and collaborative department of 15 staff across years 11 to 13. The KGV Mathematics department enjoys excellent examination results at all levels as a result of a reflective and forwardthinking approach to teaching and learning. Current examples of departmental work are the development of stimuli for, and the practical implementation of, exploration in a mathematical context, and from a technology perspective, developing the use of video as a teaching and learning tool within the schools extensive moodle-based VLE. Proven leadership capabilities and experience of leadership within the Mathematics curriculum are essential for this role. The post holder will work in collaboration with the Learning Director and the Head of Middle School Mathematics, to ensure that students enjoy a successful and rewarding mathematical experience at KGV. Examples of Specific Responsibilities: Leading the implementation and continued development of the Mathematics curriculum for Years 11-13 Supporting student development and achievement within Mathematics Support student development through the provision of opportunities for extra-curricular Mathematics for Years 11-13 Ensuring the effective administration of all external examinations for Mathematics Communicating and Liaising with wider stakeholders where appropriate Leading, developing and supporting a productive, positive and effective team of staff Identifying staffing needs, professional development, and planning in service training for subject teachers in Mathematics Monitoring and evaluating the quality of teaching and learning within Mathematics Supporting the Performance Management system for the Learning Area Working within the Learning Area to innovate, develop and implement whole school priorities KGV Mathematics Department Summary Background The Mathematics Department is highly successful, with well-motivated students and a dedicated team of teachers producing excellent examination results. Students compete as individuals and teams in a variety of international Mathematics competitions with great success. The teaching staff is reflective upon its practice and proactive in seeking to improve all aspects of provision. Teaching and Learning In its teaching and dealings with students, the department supports and contributes to the school aims through more specific departmental aims as follows: To develop the mathematical ability of students so that they consider mathematics a worthwhile and enriching pursuit, which they might continue to develop after leaving school; To provide students with sufficient skills and understanding of mathematics, with particular emphasis on the basics of numeracy and algebra, to cope successfully with those everyday practical situations where mathematics is needed outside school, in other subjects and in further courses of study, using their skills with confidence; To encourage students to become independent learners, who experience satisfaction in, and enjoyment of, their mathematical achievements. The Department is working towards ICT capabilities being fully harnessed to create an integrated framework for the assessment, teaching and learning of Mathematics. Years 7 and 8 The scheme of work incorporates or supports: Practical activities to replace the work in the textbooks; Differentiated exercises for consolidation, revision and practice; Use of ICT and indicators where ICT can be used; Research skills; Investigations that are appropriate to the topic; Variety in the lessons with the inclusion of stimulating lesson starters.
