For example, if the lights are off when you arrive, turn them off when you leave. If you open a gate, close it. If you drop something, pick it up. You get the idea… If you find something is out of place, damaged, or missing, please notify us right away – if we’re not available, please leave a note in the mail box beside the office door. If you are the last to leave at night, please turn off the arena lights, close and chain the gate. If you, your guests, or your horse(s) cause damage to the equipment and/or structures at A Rising Star, you are responsible for paying for repairs. We will charge $15 an hour for labor and full price of any materials needed. Boarders have the option of repairing damages themselves. A Rising Star will repair damage caused by normal aging, wear & tear. 6) Guests Your guests are your responsibility while they are at A Rising Star Equestrian Center. By coming to the facility they are choosing to participate in an equine activity, thereby subject to Colorado Law, which states: “UNDER COLORADO LAW, AN EQUINE PROFESSIONAL IS NOT LIABLE FOR AN INJURY TO OR THE DEATH OF A PARTICIPANT IN EQUINE ACTIVITIES RESULTING FROM THE INHERENT RISKS OF EQUINE ACTIVITIES, PURSUANT TO SECTION 13-21-119, COLORADO REVISED STATUTES.” All guests must sign a release of liability form before they ride or handle any horse. Liability forms are available in the office and on a clipboard on the table in the indoor arena. Feel free to take a few blanks home to use for neighbors or friends. Remember that anyone under 18 needs to have their parent or legal guardian sign the release. You may not sign on the behalf of the parent. 7) Dog Policy Well-behaved dogs are welcome at Rising Star. Your dog must be on a leash and not left unattended. Dogs tend to startle horses so be aware. You will be responsible for any damage or injury caused by your dog. Please clean up after your dog. 8) Lost & Found We accumulate a significant collection of lost and found items. Please stop by the office now and then to look through the lost and found box for anything that belongs to you. If Items have been unclaimed for 30 days, A Rising Star will discard or donate these items. 9) Helmets Helmets are strongly recommended. All riders under the age of 18 MUST wear a helmet. Adults choosing to ride without a helmet do so at their own risk. Jumpers MUST wear a helmet at all times. No exceptions. Ever. This is for the riders’ safety and is stated in the release of liability that all riders sign. 10) Appliances / Heaters / All Miscellaneous electrical items No space heaters, heat lamps or any other item that has a heating element are to be used in the tack rooms at any time. These items put an unsafe load on our electrical circuits and create a potential fire hazard. Prior approval must be given by ARS staff to use heat lamps in the stalls or any other electrical item that stays plugged in for extended periods. 2 _______ (Initials) 11) General Arena Guidelines and Etiquette Ride and enter the arenas at your own risk. Anyone in the arenas is choosing to be involved in an equine activity. If you get hurt, you are responsible for any injuries to yourself and/or your horse and other riders and their horses you injure. Lessons take priority in the indoor arena at all times. Please be aware of students, as they may have trouble steering or controlling their horses. Instructors may ask you to leave the arena during a lesson if your horse is disruptive, or if the instructor feels the situation is unsafe. If the indoor arena is crowded please do not work patterns or reverse direction without communicating your intentions. Please check the lesson schedule on-line at arisingstareqcenter.com for the schedule if you want to avoid the facility at peak times. If you have something specific you would like to put on the arena schedule, contact the office. Only instructors should stand in the middle of the arena when giving lessons or training. All spectators should be behind the wall when riders are in the arena. No trainers or instructors are to train horses or give lessons before 9am. No carts in the indoor arena on the weekends during peak times (9 am – 4:00 pm) and during lessons. Please check the lesson schedule prior to working your horse with a cart. We have several “in-house” instructors and trainers available for your needs at A Rising Star Equestrian Center. Information is available in the office with their skills and teaching levels. If you prefer to use an instructor or trainer that is not in-house there is a $25.00 outside trainer/instructor fee payable to A Rising Star Equestrian Center. All outside instructor/trainers must schedule time for use of the indoor arena and contact the office to have the lesson put on the schedule. ARS inhouse instructors/trainers have schedule priority and outside trainers are to schedule around ARS lessons. In addition, the instructor/trainer must have A Rising Star Equestrian Center as an additional insured on their liability policy. A Certificate of Insurance must be provided to ARS prior to them working on the property. In addition there is a $10 fee for trailer in if you use one of our inhouse instructors/trainers for horse not boarded at ARS. Please call “gate” or “door” before you enter the arenas so horses and riders are alerted to your presence. Wait for an appropriate moment when other horses are not near or approaching the gate before you enter. Mount, dismount, and adjust tack in the middle of the arena, not on the rail. Do not tie horses to the fence or leave horses unattended. Please help keep traffic moving and do not stop your horse at the rail to visit. Be aware of the effect your horse is having on others. If your horse is being disruptive to lessons or other riders, please consider lunging your horse first or riding in another arena. We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable ride. Lunge only on the east end of the indoor arena when other people are riding. If somebody is riding in the indoor arena ask the rider if they are okay with you lunging your horse. No more than two people are to lunge horses in the arena at the same time, lunge only one horse if there is a rider in the 3 _______ (Initials) arena. No lunging in the arena if there are three or more riders. If your horse is disruptive, or cracking the lunge whip is causing problems for other riders, PLEASE STOP. Do not ride close to other horses when passing. Let the rider in front of you know that you intend to pass. Pass oncoming horses left-to-left, just as you would in your car. If not following this guideline, let the other riders know where you intend to go. Please let students ride on the rail, as they may have trouble moving around other horses. Give everyone lots of notice, and keep a distance of two horse-lengths between your horse and the horse in front of you. Please keep your elbows in if you are carrying a whip. Do not give treats to horses without approval from the owner. Do not tie your horse to the stall doors. COMMUNICATION IS ESSENTIAL. Please communicate when passing, circling, taking a diagonal line, or completing other movements off the rail. If you have a specific request, such as practicing a show test, please ask the other riders if they mind. Always check the schedule on-line if you want to avoid peak times. Remember: communication and being helpful are the keys to a fun and successful riding experience for everyone. I have read and understand the above guidelines, and agree to any penalty that is incurred if I do not follow them. __________________ (Date) ____________________________________ (Print Name) ___________________________________________________________ (Signature) Parent of Minor: ___________________________________________________________ (Print Name) ____________________________________________________________ (Signature) 4 _______ (Initials)
