CURRICULUM VITAE ANURADHA BANSAL E-mail: anuradha.bansal@jic.ac.uk bansal.anuradha05@gmail.com Mobile: +44-7580629686 PERSONAL PROFILE I want to establish a career which will help me utilize my comprehensive knowledge of Plant pathology and biotechnology to contribute towards the growth of self and society. I am a passionate learner and want to explore research in all forms. I am observant and detail oriented. I want to broaden my skill set and I believe continuing development is essential to keep up with the changing needs in the field of science and research. KEY SKILLS Plant Pathology (dealing with fungal pathogens and studying interactions with wheat) Molecular biology techniques (PCR, qRT-PCR for gene expression and DNA quantification) DNA and RNA isolation, Cloning and sequencing, bacterial transformation Plant tissue culture techniques Bioinformatics tools like BLAST, ClustalW, Vector NTI suite PCR primer design, sequence analysis, TaqMan probe design Experimental design and statistical analysis Strong verbal and written communication skills Excellent organizational skills Computing and IT skills (MS Office suite, Adobe Photoshop) CURRENT WORK PROFILE Currently studying “Effects of Lr34 and Lr46 on hemibiotrophic and nectrotrophic fungal pathogens of wheat” as a PhD student I have been studying the resistance and susceptibility responses of Lr34 and Lr46 (adult plant rust resistance genes) towards Zymoseptoria tritici which causes the septoria tritici blotch of wheat. These genes confer resistance towards a range of biotrophic pathogens like rust, mildew and spot blotch. However, their effects on necrotrophs haven't been studied. I am looking at trade-offs between resistance to biotrophs and susceptibility to necrotrophs. Main responsibilites: 1. Isolation and culture of fungal pathogens including Septoria, Blumeria graminis, Magnoporthe grisea, and Ramularia collo-cygni 2. Pathological assays to study disease response to fungal pathogens of wheat (Septoria, Powdery mildew, wheat blast) on whole seedlings as well as detached leaves using a variety of inoculation methods 3. Disease trials in controlled environment in polytunnels and Field trials for assessment of Septoria, Fusarium, Tan Spot, Yellow rust to understand the pathogen-host relationship in different environments 4. Fungal detection and quantification using qPCR techniques and Genotype analysis using DNA based markers 5. Study infection related plant responses using qRT-PCR based gene expression studies and GC-MS based metabolite profiling 6. Use of light and confocal microscopy to study infection process of Septoria 7. Experimental design and statistical analysis of data through softwares like Genstat ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS Pursuing PhD in Biological Sciences (Effect of Lr34 and Lr46 on hemibiotrophic and necrotrophic fungal diseases of wheat), October 2010-September 2014, University of East Anglia and John Innes Centre, Norwich, UK M.Sc Plant Biotechnology, 2008-2010, TERI University, Delhi, India (8.35/10 CGPA) B.Sc (Honors) Botany, 2005-2008, Delhi University, Delhi, India (84.9% Ist Division) All India Senior School Certificate Examination (Class XII), 2005, Prabhu Dayal Public School, Delhi, India (84%) All India Secondary School Examination (Class X), 2003, Prabhu Dayal Public School, Delhi, India (82.8%) TRAINING EXPERIENCE Visiting worker at CIMMYT, Mexico to study wheat pathogens (July 2012- October 2012) o Scoring field trials for Septoria, yellow rust, tan spot, Fusarium o Genotype analysis using DNA markers M.Sc project titled “Functional characterization of microRNAs from Brassica species” at The Energy and Resources Institute, Delhi (January 2010-April 2010) o Cloning of mir156 homologues from Brassica species o Spatio-temporal expression analysis of mir156 in Brassica using qRT-PCR and northern blotting techniques o Arabidopsis transformation using floral dip method with cloned homologues Extensive tissue culture experience at TERI Micropropagation Park, Delhi, India (May 2009July 2009 o Plant tissue culture (Anther culture, stem culture, root culture etc.), media preparation o Development and testing of suitable growth media and culture protocols Workshop for Management Development Programme at Norwich Research Park (2013) Technical writing Basic statistics and Design principles Experimental Design and analysis, Mixed model analysis ACHIEVEMENTS AND AWARDS Beachell-Borlaug International Scholarship awarded by Monsanto and Texas Agrilife Research, Texas A&M University for pursuing Ph.D. research in wheat breeding Junior Research Fellowship and NET qualification awarded by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, India, 2010 Gold medal for securing first rank in B.Sc.
