Recruiting Information for International Degree Students
Established in 1958, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TUTCM) is one of the
earliest universities of TCM in China and the only International University of TCM approved by State
Education Commission (now Ministry of Education) in 1992. TUTCM is also the “Educational Aid
Center” of Ministry of Education (MOE), TCM International Cooperation Center of State
Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SATCM) and “China-ASEAN Educational Training
Center”. Furthermore, TUTCM is also Director Member of the Unit of Steering Committee of TCM,
Medical Humanistic Quality education and education of the World Federation of TCM.
The University has a distinguished teaching faculty and staff of more than 3,600. Among them,
there are 3 Academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, more than 900 senior professional
teachers, 12 doctoral tutors and more than 890 master tutors. Over the years, TUTCM has kept its motto
“Strengthening Moral Education and Pursuing Academic Studies, Inheriting and Innovating” and have
cultivated a large number of outstanding talents in TCM, represented by 3 Academicians Zhang Boli,
Shi Xuemin and Liu Changxiao, who have contributed significantly to the development health
undertakings and internationalization of TCM.
The University now has 2 National Key Disciplines: Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Tuina and
TCM Internal Medicine, 23 Key Disciplines of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine
(SATCM), 5 Key Disciplines of Tianjin “12th Five-Year”, 4 affiliated hospitals and 5 teaching hospitals.
Among them, the First Affiliated Hospital is a national clinical research base, the National Research
Center for acupuncture clinic, the National Acupuncture Clinical Base and the National Provincial
Traditional Chinese Medicine Demonstration Hospital; the Second Affiliated Hospital is the treatment
center for Chinese medical difficult disease and has significant advantage for gynecological and
encephalopathy diseases; Baokang Hospital and other teaching hospitals have unique treatment feathers
in rehabilitation medicine, Orthopedics, Community Health of TCM, Integrative Medicine and etc..
The University has made extensive international exchanges and cooperation. It has established
cooperation and exchanges with 77 universities, hospitals and research institutions from 56 countries
and regions. There are more than 2,000 foreign students from Korea, Japan, U.S.A., Malaysia, Mongolia
and other 60 more countries which include 1,200 degree students. It has formed TCM
internationalization talents training system where the bachelor education is the main part .The system
also covers master and doctoral education and short and long term certificate studies.
The new campus of the University is under construction which is located around Tuanbo Lake in
Jinghai County of Tianjin. The new campus covers an area of 2,600 mu (equals to 1.73 square kilometer)
and the building area is about 600,000 square meters. The building will become the national largest
museum of Chinese Medicine, Chinese Medicine Botanical Garden, the national most advanced
Medicine and Medical Science and Technology Park and International Education Center of TCM. And
for students, the University will provide a more excellent environment of study and living.
I. Applicant Requirements
A. Bachelor Program:
· Foreign Students
· Senior High School Graduates, Those with Equivalent Degree or Above
Applicants under 18 should proceed with notarization of the guardian.
B. Master’s Program (One of the Following):
· TCM Bachelor’s Degree
· Bachelor’s Degree, and Bearer of TCM or Acupuncturist License in his home country
· Bachelor’s Degree, and has completed the designated medical courses
·Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Preparation, Crude Drug,
Pharmacology or other related majors (For Chinese Materia Medica)
C. Doctoral Program (One of the Following):
· Master’s Degree of TCM related programs
Master’s Degree of Concerning Western Medicine Subjects, and Bearer of TCM or
Acupuncturist License in his home country
·Master’s Degree of Concerning Western Medicine Subjects, and has completed the designated
TCM courses
·Master’s Degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Preparation, Crude Drug,
Pharmacology or other related majors (For Chinese Materia Medica)
※The applicants for Master or Doctoral Degree of Acupuncture & Moxibustion and
Tuina with English courses should have Bachelor or Master Degree of Medicine or
related major.

B. Master’s Program

C. Doctoral Program
43,000/Ac Yr for Foreign Students in Chinese;

VIII. General Procedures for foreign applicants :
A. Pay application fee, post application materials and copy of remit receipt via mail, Email or fax.
B. The university sends Admission Notice and JW202 Form.
C. Do physical exam at designated hospital. Foreign applicants apply X visa at Chinese embassy.
D. Report to the university immediately after entry into China, verify/re-do physical exam and apply
for a residence permit within 30 days.
