This institute is providing comprehensive and multi-disciplinary care to ailing cancer patients. INFRASTRUCTURE: 1. MULTI-DISCIPLINARY OUT-PATIENT BLOCK: In order to facilitate co-ordinated patient care, the multidisciplinary outpatient block was built. The ground floor has a main foyer with waiting area, Medical Records , Public Relations Officer, Social Welfare Officer, General Duty Doctor’s room, Assistant Social Scientist room for case registration and Out-patient Clinics, :Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Head and Neck, Oral Oncology, Gynaecology, Radiation Oncology and Radio-diagnosis. The first floor of this block houses offices of the Director, Medical Superintendent, Chief Administrative Officer, Financial Adviser, Resident Medical Officer, Academic cell and Nursing Superintendent,. In addition, the Computer Section, Dept of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, CT Scanner and Nuclear Medicine. 2. JINDAL COMPLEX This complex has 19 beds, with Deluxe and Semi Deluxe wards. A clinical trial room, pheresis room and a Central Catheter Clinic 3. LINEAR ACCELERATOR COMPLEX: This is a well/designed complex housing state of Art Linear Accelerator with a mould room and dosimetry facilites. Radio therapy machines are also housed in RT Annexe Complex which also has a Community Oncology unit. 2 4. BRACHYTHERAPY COMPLEX: The complex has a ward of 12 beds (hot beds), an Operation Theatre Selectron room, a “Cold room” and Radioisotope store room. 5. OT COMPLEX: The Operation theatre complex consists of seven modern fully equipped operation theatres, an 8 bedded critical care unit with bed side ventilator support and monitors. 6. A Critical Care bed Medical ICU with 3 beds in housed in the Anikethana Complex. 7. A BMT Unit with 2 beds having Sterile Laminar Air flow is housed in the old Block. 8. BEDS: The initial bed strength of 50 has now been enhanced to 509 located across three new blocks, the Anikethana Complex, Kapoor Paediatric Block and Shanthidhama II 9. The DHARMASHALA is a unique project of its kind in the country to provide accommodation to about 250 ambulatory cancer patients along with 250 of their attendants. This is run by the Dharmashala committee which provides, in addition to free beds, free food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and entertainment facilities. This is possible through philanthropic contributions from various sources. It has two blocks i.e the Sri Venkateshwara Dharmashala, a Yoga Room and a Palliative Care ward with 20 beds. 10. REHABILITATION SERVICES: This is located in the premises of the KCDF building and offers Psychological counselling, Stoma care, Speech therapy and post mastectomy counselling. 11. COMMERCIAL COMPLEX: A commercial complex comprising of a milk counter, vegetable stall run by Horticulture department and Extention of KCDF Pharmacy has been established, facilitating the availability to patients and their attendants. A building houses the Karnataka Cancer Drug Foundation 3 (KCDF), which is a prescription based pharmacy that sells cancer drugs at costs at least 25% cheaper than the market price. A Hospital canteen facility is also available. 12. RADIOPHARMACEUTICAL COMPLEX: This is a Regional Centre for dispensing and distributing radiopharmaceuticals established in collaboration with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai. 13. RADIATION STERILIZATION PLANT: The Radiation Sterilization Plant (CGS-300) “Rashmi” was set up to sterilize disposable medical and surgical instruments by Gamma radiation. This is also a commercial establishement. 14. DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES: I. II. III. LABORATORY SERVICES include Microbiology, Biochemistry, Pathology and Cell Biology, which are equipped with facilities for conventional studies, immuno histochemistry and biological markers. RADIODIAGNOSIS Department is equipped with all gadgets from x-ray, mammography, ultrasound, Spiral CT scan to Doppler and C arm facilities. NUCLEAR MEDICINE: This department is equipped with a Gamma camera and a High Dose Therapy unit. MANPOWER In order to provide satisfactory patient care and for research activities, around 1000 persons are employed by the Institute. This comprises Doctors, Scientists, Chief Administrative Officer and Financial Adviser (on deputation from the Government of Karnataka), Group “B” officers, Group “C” officials and supportive service personnel. EQUIPMENT The Institute has a wide range of sophisticated diagnostic, treatment and research equipments. Some of the major equipment are: Whole Body spiral CT Scanner, Mammogram, Ultra-sound machines, Gamma Camera, Autoanalyser, Video Endoscopes and other 4 sophisticated instruments for molecular research work like the thermal cycler (PCR machine). LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SERVICES The most essential need for any Doctor or Researcher is a good Library and Information service. Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology has an established specialized library in the field of oncology and allied sciences. Since 1981 and over two decades the regular and selective addition of books and periodicals to the library has enriched its collection in the field of Oncology and allied sciences and has made it a good reference information center. The library caters to the needs of Oncologists, Research Scientists, Undergraduate and Post graduate students of different disciplines. Professional information services available are collection, organization, document delivery service, current awareness service, selective dissemination service and photocopy service etc. The other facilities are CD-ROM based information retrieval system for National Cancer Institute(N.C.I., USA) database CANCERLIT, Physician Data Query (PDQ) and Medlers database, and Electronic information services (E-Mail and Internet) using broadband. The Institute is a model for disseminating knowledge of advances in science and technology in general and oncology in particular. Academic Activities Post Graduate/Under Graduate courses: Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology has been offering post graduate courses in MD(Radio Therapy) since 1987,Super speciality courses M.Ch(Surgical Oncology)and D.M(Medical Oncology)and Diploma course (D.M.R.T) in Radio Therapy. All these courses are affiliated to RGUHS and recognized by Medical council of India(MCI) Besides the Institute has been offering DNB courses in Anaesthesia, Pathology and Radiology which are affiliated to National Board of Examination. Various departments like Pathology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Radiation Physics are recognized for Ph.d programmes under RGUHS. In addition, the Government of India has recognized this Institute as one of the Institutes of National Excellence recognizing for W.H.O. fellowships for higher education and training in cancer treatment and research. It has among its primary objectives, the promotion of a high standard patient care and aims to provide top notch integrated training 5 programmes in the Oncological Sciences. No correspondence will be entertained in this connection. 10 ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATE:All the selected students have to produce the Eligibility Certificate issued by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences before paying the prescribed fee. HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION: Selected candidates may be provided accomodation subject to the availabality on a sharing basis /dormitory for stay in the premises, and they have to pay the prescribed Hostel fees on the 1st of every month, failing which they have to vacate the hostel rooms immediately.
