Foundation Better Newspaper Contest can be downloaded from
mopress.com/BNC.php.
All forms were mailed to newspapers with the Feb. 15 Bulletin.
The postmark deadline for entering the contest is April 30. Entries shipped after
that date will not be accepted.
_______________________________________________
-- College contest entries will be mailed soon
Entries in the Missouri College Media Association Newspaper Contest will be sent
to judges soon (90 people have volunteered to help!).
If you would like to help judge, email Kent Ford at Missouri Press,
kford@socket.net. A small packet of entries will be mailed to you. You'll have a
week to judge them, write brief comments on each entry and send them back to
MPA.
_______________________________________________
-- Send nominations for Halls of Fame, Young Journalists
Missouri Press is taking nominations for the 2012 Young Journalist of the Year
and for induction into the Missouri Newspaper Hall of Fame and the Missouri
Photojournalism Hall of Fame.
Nomination forms for all three are at mopress.com/current_forms.php. Or contact
the MPA office and ask that a form be emailed or faxed to you: (573) 449-4167,

Nominations must be in by April 30.

-- Official state website 'defaced'
The state Office of Administration reported that on Feb. 16 the official website for
the State of Missouri -- Mo.Gov -- was defaced by the insertion of graphic war
scenes. Due to stringent security protocols in place, immediate action was taken
and the defacement was removed, the office reported.
As an additional precaution, Mo.Gov was taken offline at 10 a.m. and brought
back online at 10:37 a.m. While the official website was defaced, neither the state
nor its data were accessed and the network remained secure, according to the
report.
Without putting too fine a point on it, public notices should not be consigned to a
medium that can be hacked, manipulated and "defaced" by the mischievous and
malcontented.

-- NNA Capitol Hill program on March 8
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The National Newspaper Association's Government
Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C., has been renamed the We Believe in

appointments with representatives and senators.
Participants may wish to stay in Washington through March 9 to tour on their own
before participating in an optional event with the NNA board Friday evening.
The host hotel will be the Hyatt Crystal City, 888-421-1442, $195 plus tax.

-- Political Ad Sales Training in Bethany March 15
NOW is the time to call on candidates and issue advocates to include your
newspaper in their budgets. Has your staff been trained on the latest
election data from Missouri Press?
If you would like to host a presentation for newspaper advertising sales
people in your area, contact Greg Baker at gbaker@socket.net.
Next opportunity...
Thursday, March 15
9-11 a.m.
Bethany Chamber of Commerce

These seminars are free for Missouri Press Association member newspaper
staffs. Attendees are given information on money-making opportunities
through their MPA membership, ad schedules, copy, political advertising
disclaimer law and powerful reasons to help sell more advertising to
candidates and issue advocates. In addition, results of the latest Missouri
Post-Election Voter Survey are presented. See
http://www.mopress.com/election_survey.php
The presentation will prepare sales reps to approach local candidates
before they begin advertising to show them why they should advertise in your
newspaper, now.
We want to work together, statewide, to get more political ad dollars in
newspapers.

-- New survey: Voters read newspapers
Arlington, Va. -- A 2012 survey of U.S. voters’ media use demonstrates again the
advantages newspaper media hold in connecting political advertisers – election
campaigns and issues advocates – with registered voters, the group most likely to
vote.
The American Voters Media Use Study, conducted by Moore Information, shows
that 86 percent of registered voters read newspapers in print or online. Ninety-one
percent of voters who contributed money to a campaign read online or print
newspapers.
A summary presentation on the American Voters Media Use Survey is available at
www.naa.org/political.
