Requirements for the scientific project and the procedure of its submission and assessment
1. The scientific project of the applicant to doctoral studies is independent scientific work that aims
to disclose author’s ability to perform scientific research. The scientific project must present
anticipated scientific problem, relevance of the topic, current level of exploration of the topic, the
aim and tasks of the dissertation, possible directions and methods of the solution of scientific
problem.
2. The length of the scientific project under anticipated topic of doctoral dissertation should be up to
20 numbered pages. Text should be written on one-sided A4 size paper, line spacing 1.5, font Times
New Roman, size 12.
3. Alongside with the scientific project, it is favourable to present the candidacy of anticipated
dissertation supervisor, who complies with qualification requirements. The applicant can also
provide copies of published (or accepted for publishing) scientific publications to help the admission
committee form the opinion on applicant’s scientific potential. (If scientific publication is accepted
for publishing but not yet published, applicant must present documents proving the fact of
publication acceptance).
4. The applicant to doctoral studies at VU Faculty of Economics must present two copies of the
scientific project until June 23th 2014 12:00 to the senior specialist of the Faculty of Economics (Ms.
Palmyra Jucaitiene, Sauletekio al. 9 (II building), room 411, e-mail: palmyra.jucaitiene@ef.vu.lt).
5. Scientific projects and scientific publications of applicants to the doctoral studies are assessed by
two reviewers, who have the scientific degree and are appointed by the Dean. Reviewer critically
assesses provided scientific project and writes the review according to the approved form, where
authors’ knowledge of the selected research topic, the ability to develop the thought logically and
consistently is evaluated; the reviewers’ conclusions in respect to applicant’s scientific work are
presented with the proposed grade in 10 point system according to the level of the scientific project.
6. Reviews of applicant’s scientific project are presented in written or electronic form to the science
and international relations vice-dean of the Faculty of Economics no later than 3 days before the
announced date of the interview with the Doctoral studies admission committee of the Faculty of
Economics (the interview is scheduled on July 1st 2014 at 9:00, room 402 (for economics) and room
403 (for management)).
7. Applicant with the positive average grade (higher than 4 points) from scientific project reviews is
invited to the interview with the Doctoral studies admission committee of the Faculty of Economics.
During the interview applicant replies to the comments of reviewers and other questions provided by
the members of the committee, that aim to determine applicant’s readiness for the doctoral studies.
During the final assessment of the scientific project and the interview, average grade of reviews is
taken into consideration.
8. The formula of applicant’s admission score is calculated as the weighted average of the
assessment of scientific project and the interview (60%), arithmetical average of master’s diploma or
equivalent diploma supplement (20%) and the assessment of the existence of scientific publications
(20%).
