DSM Infinity® 3000 Server
“Flexible, service-friendly and failure-proof“
Munich - March 2001 – The larger the group of people with access
to a server, the more severe are the effects of the consequences of
hardware failures. In the case of Web-provider servers, B2B services,
virtual market places, online brokers, etc., thousands of users are
affected world-wide in the extreme case. When in doubt, it should not
come to angry reactions from customers, in view of the enticing offers
from competitors, but the choice should be made immediately opt for
failure-proof hardware like the Infinity® High End Industrial Server
Systems (HEISS) manufactured by the specialist DSM AG.
Quality, reliability and redundancy belong to the core principles of
the new Infinity® High End Industrial Server Systems (HEISS) of the
Infinity® 3000 series manufactured by DSM. The systems, which are
entirely manufactured in Germany, benefit from nearly two decades of
development experience. The flexible concepts of the backplane and
the slot CPUs conforming to the PICMG standard enable a wide range
of different system configurations up to the scalable multi-processor
system. In the large, 7-rack-unit housing, up to eight separate
industrial PCs can be implemented on a bus circuit board which can,
for example, be supplemented by an external RAID system with a
hot-swap functionality. The service-friendly Blueboard slot CPUs,
with a guaranteed availability of at least five years, enable
replacements or upgrades with little effort. Currently, the Intel
Pentium III/IV 650 MHz with a clock frequency of up to 1 GHz and a
dual CPU are being used as processors. With respect to memory
configuration, 2 x 1024 MB per CPU unit currently marks the upper
limit.
Among other system features, there are the redundant power supplies
with 2 x 300 Watts or 2 x 400 Watts and high-performance fans with
replaceable dust filters. A Watch-Dog as well as a special hardware
module for remote monitoring possibilities including remote
diagnosis via Internet are optionally available.
The latter reports impermissibly high temperatures in the interior of
the housing or excessively hot processors via fan speeds, or other
failures to be expected, in time prior to their occurrence. The Infinity
systems are subjected to a 48-hour burn-in test and are optionally
delivered with a pre-installed operating system.
