Summit Hill District 161 kindergarten registration drive begins February 8
Summit Hill School District 161’ s 2016-2017 Kindergarten registration drive is set for February
8 and February 9, 2016. Parents may access the Summit Hill website at www.summithill.org to
review the checklist of documents needed for registration. Parents may register their child at Dr.
Julian Rogus School, 20027 South 88th Ave. in Frankfort between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on both
dates. Following completion of registration, students and parents may participate in a tour hosted
by Rogus Kindergarten teachers.
Parents have the option of enrolling their kindergartener in the extended day program which is
from 8:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. or the half-day program which runs from 8:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
Registration fee for extended day is $150. Registration fee for half day is $125. Payment options
are available. A $20 off registration fee incentive is available for those who complete their
child’ s registration on or before Feb. 26, 2016.
Parents will need to present an official birth certificate (with certification seal from the county).
Students must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2016. If applicable, proof of legal
custody would include presentation of a court order or decree for legal guardianship, proof of
legal custody through public aid documents, or proof of foster care.
Upon completion of residency verification, parents will be given a username and password to
access the online registration form. Parents can pay the registration fee online via credit/debit
card. Yearly milk may be purchased as well. Payment plans are included in the registration form.
For additional information, please call 815-469-9103. Bus transportation assignments will be
available through PowerSchool in mid-August.
Should the need arise, school closing will be communicated in a variety of ways
It never seems soon enough to communicate our plan concerning inclement weather or a school
building heating or power emergency. Parents have the ability to update contact information in
their PowerSchool parent portal to select how they wish to receive emergency alerts (text, voice,
or e-mail). We also post school closing information online at www.Emergencyclosings.com.
This online website also electronically sends the information to local radio stations (WGN 720
and WBBM 780) and to local television stations (Channels 2, 5, 7, 9 (WGN), 32 (FOX), and to
CLTV) for reporting to the public.
This year we have added a "One Hour Delay" option in the event that school could begin safely
after the roads are cleared and made serviceable. In the event that we utilize this option, school
would begin exactly one hour later at all schools and bus pick-ups would also be scheduled for
one hour later.
Emergency school closing general guidelines
• Among the resources considered in the event of a weather emergency is the wind chill chart
from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
• During our review of current and forecasted conditions, if the air temperature reaches -10
degrees, we will strongly consider closing school.
• During our review of current and anticipated conditions, if a sustained wind chill of between 25 degrees and -30 degrees is forecast, we will strongly consider closing school.
• We will generally make a decision and communicate with parents around 5:30 a.m. A status
update will be provided to parents the evening before.
• If schools are closed, all school-related activities are cancelled.
