Said came to TX in 1856. Enlisted in Co. C, 3rd Texas Calvary 3 Jun 1861 at Rusk, TX and served until Jun 1864. Was dropped from pension rolls because he was reported a deserter. Several letters state he took unauthorized leave and went home because they had been promised leave but Gen Polk died and no one knew of his promise for leave so several went home. Tried to come back but the Mississippi river was flooded and later the war ended. Letter to Adjutant General asked for his service record for widow. Other letter mentioned he never married. Father was Exum and brother Simon Barnes Peacock 2. #40693 (widow’s Application filed in Llano Co.,TX) Levi Ra(i)ford Peacock (585) born 1837 died 18 Sept 1922 in Dallas, TX. Md. Susan A. Swanson, 3 Aug 1862 in Randolph Co.,GA. She was born 1845 died 26 Aug 1934 in Llano, TX. Enlisted 5 May 1862 in Randolph Co.,GA as a private in Co G 55th Regiment GA infantry. Appointed 2nd sergeant 24 July 1862. Captured at Cumberland Gap 9 Sept 1863, taken to Camp Douglas and discharged 15 June 1865. Complexion dark, hair dark, eyes grey, height 5’ 9”. W.T Swanson (1853 living in San Antonio) wrote letter Re: widow pension stating he was well acquainted with Levi in his lifetime. Family listed on page 28 of Birds of a Feather. Father Stephen Peacock. 3. #40125 Mack (Malachi) W(orrell) Peacock (2015) born 1842 in Taylor Co., GA., died 5 Mar 1930 in Naples, Morris Co., TX. in home of nephew N.A. Chapman of acute Bright’s disease. Came to Texas about 1884. Applied for pension in Naples, Cass Co., TX. (Naples is listed in both Morris and Cass Co’s in application-Morris was taken from Cass & Titus counties) Was enlisted in Co. F, 3rd Regiment GA Infantry. Samuel Peacock III & Sons p25-26 lists him and Willis Peacock father, Mattie 1876, dtr and John L.1879, son. 4. #32409 James M.(oulton) Peacock (1901) filed in Lampasas Co., TX. Born 1846 in Hempstead Co.,AK. died Tues 28 May 1918 in Lampasas, TX in home of W.S. Peacock, son, buried at Oak Hill Cem. Enlisted Nov 1863 Co B 20th AK Infantry, Capt Jonathan Sissell unit. J.M. Reed stated he had known James since he was 4 years old and served with him in war. John F. Fussill ? said he was wounded in fight at Jinkins Ferry. Statement from Robert G. Peacock (b 1851 Hempstead, AK d 1920 Lamar Co TX) who said he was his brother and lived in home with him when he enlisted. He was shot in arm and R.G. took a horse to him and he rode it home to Charleston, TX “where we had moved our home”. When he got well he served in TX under Lt. Marshall. Information on family found on Page 32 of Birds of a Feather. R.G. Peacock is not listed but was born in 1851 and lived in Ozona, Crockett Co.,TX in 1915. William J(asper) Peacock (1703) born 1836 in Barbour Co., AL. died 27 Mar 1924 in Jacksonville, Cherokee Co.,TX. in home of daughter Mrs L.A. Seymour, of “just old age by Dr Canon” Enlisted 3 May 1862 Co E. 59th Alabama Regiment. Elected 2nd Lieutenant and later promoted to Captain. Pierce. 6. # 27879 filed from Dallas,TX. J(udge) A(lston) Peacock (337) born 1848 Dale Co., AL. came to Tx in 1878, Died May 1924. Served in Co E 59th AL Regiment. Witness was William Jasper Peacock, brother. Was judged insane and sent to asylum at Terrell, TX on 14 June 1922. Mrs L. (Belle) Martin, daughter, tried to get warrant paid and L.A. Seymour (husband of William J.’s daughter) made call for her. Witness L.G. McLendon knew him and served with him in Dale Co., AL. Birds of a Feather p 4, father Reddick Peacock, ancestor of John J. Pierce 7. #25669 filed from Johnson Co, TX. James Harriett Bryant Peacock (military record shown as J.H.B. Peacock) born 14 Dec 1841 in GA, Died 24 Dec 1923 in Johnson Co., TX. Came to TX in 1892. Enlisted in Co K 24th Arkansas Regiment under Col. Portlock. Captured in 1863 and was a prisoner for 3 months at Camp Douglas. Was a corporal. Witnesses David Chandler of Pike Co., AR and Jack Davis, 3rd Lt. of Polk Co., AR. Father was David and grandfather was Lewis and GG grandfather was William then Samuel I as in Feb 94 Peacock Paths. Wife Parrie and children John W., Birdine, George, Minnie and Salome. 8. #0239 and Widow’s #34793 filed from Cleburne, Johnson Co., TX Demarquis Lafayette Peacock (3364) Born Aug 1839, Died 27 Oct 1917 in Johnson Co., TX. Came to TX about 1869. Married Sarah Rebecca Hogue 30 Jan 1868 in Miller Co., AK. She was born 1844 in Pauldin Co., GA. He enlisted in Co. D 4th Arkansas Regiment in 1861 and served until end of war. Affidavit signed by J.E. Peacock and J.M.Anderson. D.L. owned 1 horse $40, 1 horse $20, 1 buggy $40 on application. Birds of a Feather pages 13-14 show this family. Father was Alfred Peacock of Barnwell Co., SC. 9. #5198 filed from Volga, Houston Co., TX. William Jasper Peacock (3020) Born 1835, Died 29 March 1928 at Lovelady, Houston Co., TX. Came to TX in 1880. Married Mary Jane Pelt. Enlisted in Co F (T?) 4th Florida Infantry Regiment. He was wounded at battle of Murphreesboro, TN, was captured and put in prison for 1 year according to one witness statement. He had one leg off at knee. Died of “chronic interstitial nephritis”. Mortuary warrant signed by W.J. Lundy, son-in-law. Birds of a Feather page 12 gives information on this family. Father was Timothy Peacock. 10 #17335 filed from San Antonio, Bexar Co., TX. John Thompson Peacock (806) Born 1842, died CA 1933. Came to TX about 1896. Married Martha Ann Stovall. Enlisted in Co F 11th Regiment Mississippi Calvary in Feb 1863 and served until end of war. Is also shown as J.T. Peacock in Co A Ashcraft’s Battalion, MS Calvary C.S.A. Another record shows I.T. Peacock, private, Co H, 11th MS Calvary, C.S.A. as p.o.w. and surrendered May 4, 1865 at Citronelle, AL. and paroled May 17, 1865 at Columbus, MS. W.A. Tatum and C.H. Moore of Hill Co., TX signed statement that they were boys before war and went to school with him. Affidavit signed by A.R. Allsup and A.W. Kapt. Real estate and personal was $650.00. Jacob Levi Peacock (347) born 1846 Muscogee Co., GA, Died 22 Nov 1904 in Dallas, TX. Married Sudie Fisher (born 20 Apr 1855-died 15 Nov 1940 in Dallas, TX) 13 Aug 1871 in Fulton Co., GA. Came to TX in 1876. Enlisted near Montgomery, AL in Co G 64th AL Regiment 23 Mar 1864 later in Co B 2nd Regiment. Paroled 27 May 1865 at Montgomery, AL. He was listed at 5’ 6”, Dark hair, Blue eyes, Fair complexion. Witnesses for Sudie were Porter Cochran and R. Routh. Son, Albert Franklin Peacock, paid funeral expenses and she is buried at Grove Hill Cem. in Dallas. Birds of a Feather, page 9, lists information on this family. Father was Levi L. Peacock. 12. #14887 filed from Rusk, Cherokee Co., TX. Simon Barnes Peacock (397) Born 1838 in Macon Co., GA, Died 15 Feb 1927 in Rusk, Cherokee Co., TX. Came to TX in 1859. Married Mary Elizabeth Norton (born 1847 in GA died 4 Jan 1935 Rusk, TX) 4 Sept 1878 in Cherokee Co., TX. Simon died of “LaGrippe with bronchitis” and Mary died of “cancer of the left breast and heart failure” in the home of her daughter Mrs C.E. Henry. He enlisted in Co. I 35th Texas Regiment April 1862 and was discharged at Galveston, TX April 1865. His witnesses were Jas. P. Gibson and J.B. Copeland and J.W. Jones and C.C. Brewer. Her witnesses were B.C. John Atlas Peacock (784) Born 1846 died 24 Feb 1922 in Ft. Worth, Tarrant Co., TX. Married Martha Elizabeth-----(born 19 Nov 1851 Harrison Co., TX-Died 2 April 1933 Ft Worth, Tarrant Co., TX) on 15 April 1879 in Morris Co., TX. He enlisted at Daingerfield, Titus Co., TX fall of 1863 and served until end of war. Was in Ranger service in West Texas but unit# not established. In statement of his sister, Mary Belle Peacock, born 1856 and never married, she said she remembered well when he enlisted and he talked of a Capt Brown and Capt Pace. She stated he had a colored body-servant by the name of Dick Grant, who went to war with him. She remembers her brother coming home in 1864 when their father died. She remembers he rode a horse during his service and the body-servant also rode a horse. An affidavit by Dick Grant, body-servant, stated they served in West Texas against the Indians at Lampasas and San Saba and they enlisted in John Houston’s regiment in Dec 1863 and “I rendered service as his servant the first year from 1863 to 1864”. Mortuary warrant for Martha Elizabeth, who died in the home of her daughter, Ella L. Peacock, was signed by Ella and Myra Peacock.. She died of myocarditis and pleurisy. Information on this family found in Birds of a Feather, page 33. Father was William Peacock. 14 #3716 filed from Tyler, Smith Co., TX. John Levi Peacock (2012) Born 1837 Died early 1900’s. Married Vanilla Hill. Enlisted in Co C 59th Georgia for 14 months. Claim showed no land and no personal property and was a farmer. He had a large rupture in his left groin area and a large ulcer on both legs. Claim was signed 28 July 1899 at Tyler, TX. Affidavit signed by T.T. Hill and S.A. Hill. Information on this family is found in Birds of a Feather, page 8. Father was Willis Peacock. 15 #32805 filed from Grimes Co., TX. Louis C. Peacock Born 1844 in Georgia, Died 10 Jan 1922 in Navasota, Grimes Co., TX. Came to Texas about 1872, Enlisted 15 Mar 1862 Co. A 18th Georgia, Capt. O’Neil’s unit. Captured at Burksville, VA on 6 April 1865, released on oath 25 June 1865 at Newport News, VA. Statement from C.C. Phillips, born 1843, of Acworth, GA stated he had known Louis 65 years and his father, M.T. Phillips, had raised Louis from about 6 years old. Another statement from J.M. Tanner, born 1835, of Acworth, GA, said he had known Louis before the war and all through the war. Louis died in the home of his son-in-law Martin B. Allen, of a “gunshot wound accidentally discharged while in his own hands” in Navasota, Grimes Co., TX and was buried at Anderson Cem. Mortuary warrant signed by George L. Peacock,son. PP’s 2/94 gives father as Lewis Peacock and mother Sarah Shine. Lewis was son of David Peacock and Charlotte Bryan of NC and David was apparent son of William Peacock who was murdered in 1760 in NC. (Cynthia Peacock md a Charles Phillips ca 1829 in MS.) 16 # 04202 Filed from Van Zandt Co., TX. Michael Thomas Peacock (29 Arnold) Born 29 March 1837 Pike Co., AL. Died 16 April 1926 at Waco, McLennan Co.,TX, buried at Oakhill Cem., death notice said he was born in 1832 and was 94 years at death. Married Sarah Cynthia Barron (born 23 Aug 1843 in Georgia, Died 1 Jan 1877 in Smith Co.,TX) 6 Dec 1860 in Pike Co., AL. Enlisted 14 Feb 1862 from Brundidge, AL at Pensacola, FL. in Co E 1st Alabama Infantry Regiment. Captured at Port Hudson, LA and again at Island #10, MO. Stated “my arm was shattered by a ball at the battle of Atlanta” on 28 July 1864 and lost left arm. He went back to service as a Corporal in Nov 1864 until close of war. Statement from J.J. McDaniel of Barbour Co., AL said he served with him in war and knew him in 1860-61. Application said his physical condition “weak-have lost my left arm and suffer from intercoastal neuralgia and dyspepsia”. Was a farmer and value of property listed as 1 cow $20, 1 yearling heifer $6, 1 sow and four pigs $6, and plow and tools $3. Came to Texas after Civil War with the Barron family.
