GOES – Good on Emergency Situation (070401/2010/579105/SUB/C4)
Programme
Preparedness & Prevention under the Civil Protection Financial Instrument (Call 2010) – DG Environment
and Civil Protection
General Objective
The authorities involved in the GOES project agree that an inadequate response to emergency situations is
often the result of disorganization, delays or deficiencies in communication between local actors involved in
various capacities in prevention and emergency management. Consequently it’s necessary to begin a
common path in order to avoid similar situations in future.
Specific Objectives
The project GOES which aims to create a network that collects daily all relevant information on road
conditions related to any criticisms and suggestions on alternative routes. The network will convey this
information to the regional civil protection structures and to the main network in order to promptly inform
citizens. The system for collecting and transmitting data should be based on standardized and automated
procedures to exchange across the partner territories. Once this connection has been created it may also be
used to convey other information coming from the whole territory, not only from the roads.

E.N.A. – Eco-Design for the Nautical Sector (ENV/IT000125)
Programme
LIFE PLUS 09
Generic Theme:
Eco-friendly products – Eco-design – Green financial products
Project Objectives
The main objective of the LIFE E.N.A. project is to improve the environmental performance of SMEs in the
naval sector of the Marche region. More than 300 companies will be informed about Directive 2005/32/EC on
eco-design requirements for energy-using products, practices in carbon footprint and environmental
1
management systems in the nautical industry. Thus, the project aims to reduce polluting elements and
facilitate the application of Best Available Techniques (BAT) for the minimisation – by quantity and toxic risk
– of final controlled waste products and the maximisation of energy savings.
Furthermore, a prototype ‘eco-boat’ will be produced using BAT that is respectful of the environment and
easily accessible by disabled people.
Expected results
• Raised awareness on eco-design and environmental compliance through the organisation of workshops
and training for at least 300 companies in the naval sector;
• Adoption of a collaboration protocol to integrate and increase environmental compliance among SMEs. The
protocol will mainly focus on the problem of chemical pollution in naval shipyards, recycling production
waste materials, and equal access to shipyards for older workers and the disabled; and
• Preparation of a protocol for eco-design in the naval sector. This protocol will be drawn up on the basis of
the experiments carried out to develop BATs for the production of eco-boats.

SALT- Sustainable management of the Esino river basin to prevent saline intrusion in the
coastal aquifer in consideration of climate change - LIFE07 ENV/IT/000497
Programme
LIFE+ European Commission – Environment Directorate General
General Objective
Project co-funded by the European Commission and the Italian Ministry for Environment and Land and Sea.
The overall objective of the SALT project is to contribute to the efficient use of groundwater resources in the
lower Esino river valley and thus their protection from saltwater intrusion.
Specific Objectives
3
The project aims to analyze the trends of saltwater intrusion into the Esino River and related aquifer and
their effects. It will also simulate future scenarios of salt intrusion in the project area (through use of remote
sensing, GIS, and river and aquifer models) to assess its likely impact considering the potential effects of
climate change.
The team will subsequently define remediation actions to prevent salt intrusion increase and develop a tool
to evaluate the impact of different management options on the quality and quantity of the aquifer.
Finally, the project will disseminate information on the proposed solutions to address saltwater intrusion and
encourage their use in other costal aquifers in the Marche Region and elsewhere in Italy and Europe.
The project is acting to support the EU policy objectives of encouraging resource efficiency through more
sustainable water consumption patterns as set out in the Sixth Environment Action Programme and the
Water Framework Directive.

AGRI.LA aims to promote the amendment of the Common Agricultural Policy with citizens, farmers and
young professionals. A defined choice has been taken by the promoters to concentrate the action in a
specific aspect of agricultural policy concerning the role of agriculture in the safeguard, preservation and
6
valorisation of landscape, soil and biodiversity, with positive effects towards an enhancement of quality of
life for all the citizens and the creation of additional and new economic opportunities for rural areas.
According to the new European rules, agriculture is a tool to allow the landscape be preserved and valorised
as an important part of people’s heritage and culture; it represents on the one hand the whole history and
culture of a population and on the other hand a natural resource that has to be protected.
It is a historic passage we all have to be aware of, in order to seize the opportunities offered by the
European institutions. The promotion of territories and of areas having an environmental value, as well as of
the landscape as a cultural factor promoting a sustainable local agricultural economy, can represent a new
future. In fact, it can give new possibilities to agriculture to develop additional activities, such as the
cultivation of traditional crops, the production of biomass energy, the valorisation of traditional farmhouses
for agro-tourism, the preservation of a harmonic landscape as it has been moulded through years by the
natives. Therefore, the new CAP represents a renewed way to look at agriculture, as an economic, tourist
and cultural resource.

Ancona Province, various Agricultural Organizations, the Chamber of Commerce of Ancona Province, the
Association Alessandro Bartola, GAL Colli Esini-San Vicino, F.E.M.O. (Euro Mediterranean Federation of the
