CEO OF BELCO COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION
CELEBRATES 40TH SERVICE ANNIVERSARY
Harrisburg, PA (7/17/13) – Belco Community Credit Union President/CEO Lonny J. Maurer has spent his
entire career servicing credit union members. On July 2, 2013, Maurer celebrated forty years of service with
the local credit union. Belco employees held a luncheon in his honor today, and presented him with cards
and gifts. The Board of Directors and Senior Management Team also recently held a dinner party in his
honor at “The Officers Club” at the Navy Depot in Mechanicsburg, and presented him with an engraved
crystal vase in recognition of his four decades.
“Lonny’s forty years of service with his vision, leadership, and dedication to the members and credit union
movement is an inspiration to all who know and work with him,” said Richard Lytle, Chairman of the Board
of Directors.
Maurer began his career at Belco on July 2, 1973, as the Assistant Manager at the former downtown
Harrisburg branch. On January 15, 1974, he was promoted to General Manager. Even though his title is
now President/CEO, his duties of leading a growing credit union have not changed.
Educated at Elizabethtown College, Lonny received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business
Administration, with minors in management, accounting and marketing. In 1973, while at E-town, he was the
President of the Men’s Honor Society, Secretary of the Marketing Club, a resident counselor and varsity
soccer player. Lonny was also unanimously elected by the College’s Business Department as the first
“Outstanding Business Student” in 1973. Through the years, he has continued his education by taking
courses such as advanced accounting, cost accounting, advanced management, real estate and
organizational structures, plus credit union programs like the Judge Bradley Credit Union Institute at Penn
State University and Credit Union Advanced Management and Marketing curriculums.
Lonny has been active in many community-related activities, including Boy Scouts, local soccer and
baseball leagues, Credit Plus Solutions Group, and Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he serves
on several committees. He has also been involved in many credit union related activities, such as the
Pennsylvania Credit Union Association, Credit Union National Association and other local affiliated
organizations.
Lonny and his wife, Patricia, reside in Linglestown and have two children, Andrew and Alexa. His hobbies
include hunting (particularly archery), hiking, building construction projects, snowmobiling, collector cars and
traveling with the family. He is a native of Harrisburg and has spent his entire life in South Central PA.
“I am so privileged to work at Belco for the last 40 years,” said Maurer. “It’s been my pleasure to serve our
members, and assist them in reaching their financial goals. I’ve worked with many dedicated and talented
employees, as well as a group of selfless, but very dedicated volunteers, who have made the journey so
enjoyable. As I reflect on this milestone, I also look forward to the future of Belco as we approach our 75th
anniversary in 2014.”
