BDTA Junior Pennant Teams 2014
Dear Parent,
Registrations are now being received for juniors who play in the Berwick District Tennis Association
(BDTA) to represent the association in the Junior Pennant competition for the 2014 season. This is the
peak junior competition run by Tennis Victoria.
The competition is in five age groups;
10 & Under Unisex
12 & Under
14 & Under
16 & Under
18 & Under
Any combination of boys and girls
Separate teams for boys and girls

Separate teams for boys and girls
Team consists of 2 boys and 2 girls
Ages are calculated as at December 31, 2014.
The season will start on August 24 and finish on November 23. There will be no play during the
school holidays and Melbourne Cup Weekend. Following are the dates when there will be no play;
21 September, 28 September and 2 November 2014. However, matches will be played on 5 October
which is last Sunday of Sep-Oct school holidays.
Pennant matches are played on Sunday mornings. Matches start at 8:30 am and they must finish by
1:00 pm. All players must be at the match venue by 8:15 am. Please bear in mind that match venues
may be as far as Geelong and Melton.
Teams usually consist of 5 players, with 4 players playing each week. Each player plays a singles
rubber (two sets plus match tiebreak) and an 8-game doubles set each week.
One of the parents in each team will be appointed as Team Manager, and each parent is required to be
the “Duty Parent” 2-3 times per season.
To play for the BDTA, each player must:





have played 4 matches in the BDTA competition between 1/7/13 and 30/6/14
wear a BDTA shirt which is available for $35 and proper tennis shorts/skirt every week – this
is a mandatory condition for participation this competition
be available to play every week as per roster. Being a premier junior tennis competition in the
state, players must make this competition their first priority. If required, any team member
should be able to fill in if any team member who is scheduled to play, is sick or injured
attend the pre-season information meeting in early August
pay the one-off cost of $70 for the season (covering team registration, court usage and ball
costs) at the pre-season meeting.
The following table is a guide to the standard of the competition. It lists the approximate BDTA
equivalent sections for each age group for boys and girls competition. Players in lower sections will
find the standard quite demanding:

To register your child’s interest, please complete the attached form and return it either to your club
junior coordinator or BDTA Junior Pennant Coordinator Jagdip Singh by 6 June 2014. No late entries
will be accepted.
After the entry deadline has passed the BDTA Grading Committee (as elected at the AGM) will select
the teams.
Teams will be announced by June 21 via Junior Coordinators and the BDTA website.
