Some of these cases have centred around issues of behaviour disturbance associated with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I have also been involved in employment tribunals, where disability discrimination has been considered. Experience in other legal cases (e.g. personal injury, insurance medical reports, etc.,). SPECIAL SKILLS: I have extensive clinical and research training covering a broad spectrum of neurological disease. I have particular interests in headache, neuropsychiatry, brain injury, and neurotoxicology (i.e. effects of alcohol and illicit drugs on brain function). I also have particular experience in inflammatory brain disorders including multiple sclerosis, neuroophthalmology, magnetic resonance imaging, epilepsy, and movement disorders. From a neuropsychiatric perspective, I am particularly interested in unexplained or questionable neurological symptoms, mechanisms of fatigue and sleep disturbance, memory disorders, and physical manifestations of conditions such as ME, chronic panic disorder, depression, and post traumatic stress disorder. I run the Regional Headache Service at the Walton Centre in Liverpool. I am particularly interested in severe and frequent headache syndromes, especially the other manifestations of such conditions (including fatigue, mood disturbance, dizziness and vertigo, neck pain, psychiatric and unexplained symptoms). I am involved in ongoing research into headache and its treatment. To date, I have written more than 30 peer-reviewed original publications in scientific journals. I trained in general medicine to registrar level before entering neurology. I spent 4 years at the Institute of Neurology in London working towards a PhD. My research focused on new magnetic resonance imaging techniques to study inflammatory, toxic, neuropsychiatric and headache disorders. I completed SPR training with 2 years at the National Hospital for Neurology, Queen Square and 2 years at Barts and the London NHS Trust. After completion of specialist training, I worked as a locum consultant neurologist at the Royal United Hospital, Bath, then at Northwick Park Hospital, Middlesex, prior to taking up my current substantive post at The Walton Centre.
