Gallatin Youth Leadership Program February Schedule February 4 – Service Saturday at MSU Saturday, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Pick up/Drop off at MSU SUB MSU’s Office for Community Involvement (OCI) hosts Service Saturdays to provide students at the University opportunities to volunteer in their community. These events are open to the public and provide a great opportunity for us to meet and work with students who are pursuing a degree. OCI has several great projects lined up for this event. We’ll help wherever we’re needed most – this might include setting up for the Big Brothers Big Sisters gala, stuffing envelopes for Montana Dental Alliance, or making Valentine’s Day cards for Meals on Wheels to deliver to the elderly. Please sign the attached waiver and bring it with you to this event – OCI requires this for all volunteers under 18 years of age. February 11 – Sidewalk Chalk Party in honor of Random Acts of Kindness Week Saturday 9:45 am – 12:15 pm Pick up/Drop off at Hopa’s Office. We’ll walk to our downtown location. We’ll invite passers by to create their own sidewalk chalk art. We’ll also invite them to learn a bit about our organization, encourage them to keep in mind that the upcoming week is Random Acts of Kindness Week, and hand out balloons with inspirational sayings written inside. Good job to everyone who came to the Museum last month and helped plan this fun event. February 18 – Letters to the Troops Saturday, 10 am – 12 pm Pick up/Drop off at The Rock We’ll write letters to our troops stationed overseas. Right now, as we wrap up our war-time military presence in Iraq, it can be easy to forget that there are still many soldiers overseas who are far from their families and the comforts of home. For those who were present for the planning meeting last month, we had originally scheduled this date to be a fundraiser for BHS Marching Band uniforms. The good news is that a private citizen stepped forward and donated the full cost of the uniforms! As a result, we will not be holding the fundraising event. February 25 – Diversity Panel Discussion in honor of Black History Month Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Pick up/Drop off at The Rock Join us for a lively discussion with a panel of Bozeman residents who work every day to promote diversity in our community. We’ll chat with representatives from the AfricanAmerican community, the Native American community, the LGBTQ community, and the Latino and immigrant communities to learn how we can promote acceptance and build bridges in our own lives. INVITE YOUR FRIENDS! This event is open to all interested teens. We’ll use this conversation as a basis for a planning meeting next month. During that meeting, we’ll develop a service project for Global Youth Service Day that promotes diversity. We are on FaceBook too! Become a fan of Hopa Mountain’s Youth Leadership Program!
