Substrate for solid surfacing and quartz agglomerate countertops. RELATED REQUIREMENTS A. 1.3 Section 06100 - Rough Carpentry: Fire retardant treatment for plywood countertop substrate. REFERENCES A. NSF/ANSI 51 - Food Equipment Materials. 1.4 INSTALLER QUALIFICATIONS A. Installers of simulated stone countertops shall be factory-trained. B. Installers of quartz agglomerate countertops shall have no less than 2 years of prior experience in the installation of simulated stone materials. 1.5 SUBMITTALS A. Shop Drawings: Require quartz agglomerate countertop supplier to provide Shop Drawings including countertop layout, dimensions, edge treatments, materials, finishes, cutouts, attachments and supporting structure. B. Certifications: Fire Retardant Treatment: For type of fire retardant treatment specified, provide certification by treating plant stating chemicals and process used, net amount of retardant retained and conformance with AWPA U1. 1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Deliver, store, protect, and handle products in accordance with provisions of Section 01600. B. Require simulated stone countertop supplier to provide Shipping List of countertops and related items shipped and including store number and project location (city and state) and installed location of each countertop (room name and number). Provide protective coverings to prevent physical damage or staining following installation for duration of project. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURER A. Substitutions: Comply with the requirements of Section 01600. 2.2 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS A. 2.3 Provide simulated stone countertops complying with the following requirements: 1. ASTM E 84: Class A. 2. United States Department of Agriculture (USDA): Approved for incidental food contact. 3. NSF/ANSI 51. QUARTZ AGGLOMERATE A. 2.4 Product Description: Quartzia by Levantina. Solid sheets consisting of quartz aggregates bound together with a matrix of filled plastic resin. 1. Finish: Polished. 2. Thickness: As indicated on Drawings. 3. Colors as follows as indicated on Drawings: a. SST4: Alpine Line Tuscany Canyon. 4. Profiles as indicated on Drawings. 5. Vendors: Purchase Quartzia products from one of the following suppliers: a. COUNTERTOP SUBSTRATE A. 2.5 Provide the following substrate for simulated stone countertops at locations indicated on Drawings: 1. Plywood DOC PS 1 Type 1 (Interior): Grade C-D Plugged veneer plywood, Exposure I. 2. Thickness as indicated on the Drawings. 3. Provide plywood treated with fire retardant specified in Section 06100. ACCESSORIES A. 2.6 Supply materials for installation of products as specified in manufacturer’s printed installation instructions including color matched silicone sealant and adhesives where applicable. FABRICATION A. Fabricate components in shop to the greatest extent practical to sizes and shapes indicated. B. Form joints between components using manufacturer’s recommended joint adhesive. Joints shall be flush, tight fitting, level, without voids and inconspicuous in appearance. C. Rout and finish component edges to a smooth, uniform finish. D. Surfaces shall have a uniform finish. E. Holes and cutouts shall be field drilled and cut. 06616-2 Shrewsbury, MO – 3061-00 08/19/13 PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. 3.2 Examine surfaces and adjacent areas where products will be installed and verify that surfaces conform to product manufacturer's requirements for substrate conditions. Read Levantina Quartzia Technical Guide at http://www.levantina.com/us/seccion.asp?idseccion=6265 prior to start of installation. C. Precondition simulated stone materials and surfaces to receive simulated stone materials in accordance with manufacturer’s printed instructions. 3.3 INSTALLATION A. Use tools, techniques and procedures recommended by quartz agglomerate countertop manufacturer for field fabrication and installation of quartz agglomerate countertops. B. Install components plumb and level in accordance with manufacturer’s printed installation instructions. C. Fabricate seams and fixture mounting in accordance with factory fabrication manual. D. Form field joints using manufacturer’s recommended adhesive, with joints inconspicuous in finished work. E. Lay out and field cut countertops using templates provided by component suppliers for field adaptation as required. Use blades, saws, drill bits, and other tools as recommended by solid-surfacing manufacturer for making field cutouts and modifications F. Provide backsplashes and end splashes as indicated on Drawings. Adhere to countertop using manufacturers standard color matched silicone sealant. G. At backsplashes provide a smooth continuous cove of sealant free of voids and neat in appearance at bottom, top and vertical corners. H.
