I was invited within my first year at the school to become the acting Head of Spanish. I accepted and wrote the Spanish schemes of work and made the resources. I was wholly responsible for the running of the department and the school was extremely pleased with my results. In my first year I learnt the importance of assessment, differentiated learning, coursework assessment and exam practice, and more, as well as achieving great results. I was a form tutor, with all the usual pastoral responsibilities. I took my form to Holland on a very enjoyable year 7 trip. I ran language clubs, for exam practice and a Japanese Appreciation Society on special school occasions (activity days) and I took opportunities to go to our feeder primary schools in the area and taught Japanese there, at a basic level, as part of a community service.
