The remaining 10 courses (38 units) are electives. Students can use electives to build analytic skills by taking courses such as Research Methods, Advanced Statistics and Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Applied GIS, etc. Students may also take policy related courses in other UCLA Departments such as Urban Planning, Social Welfare, Public Health, Management, Law, Sociology, Economics, Political Science and other departments on campus. To complete the program students must complete a total of 80 graduate level units with a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Electives (38 units /10 courses) To be considered for degree requirements, electives must be graduate level courses and relevant to the public policy curriculum. Students are able to take undergraduate courses. However, only one upper-division undergraduate course (100-199 series) can count toward the minimum 80 units required for the MPP degree and only when similar course content is not offered at the graduate level.
