191 CULL COWS & OTM
Direct Telephone number 01829 262103
Every Friday at approximately 10.00 am
Topping at 195.0p or £1,267.50
Averaging 97.6p or £626.10
191 Nice to see a few more cattle about and a small lift in
trade, up on average 7.5p or £50 per head. Best Black &
White Cows topped at 119p, Heifers to 150p, Steers to 163p.
MARKETING - Having looked at some recent dead weight
prices, please don’t just think that you are saving money
because you are not paying commission. You still have to
pay the Levy’s, haulage fees apply and a handling fee
(what’s the difference?), and the prices seen were not as up
to date as the auction price. When selling animals live the
purchasers pay for everything including the waste.
Deadweight they only pay for a carcase and then are able to
sell 5th quarters, offal, fat, etc. VENDORS don’t just sell
your cattle - Market them (that’s what successful companies
do)- Just look at the supermarkets that have it their own
way!
PLEASE do not hesitate to contact us for up to date
marketing advice, we are here to help you. CULL COW

38 Numbers remain limited after the Christmas period at
live auctions, and prices are still deflated from the trade seen
last autumn. Many sellers have been reporting that
deadweight centres are not playing ball by cancelling cattle
that have been pre booked on their schemes It’s a wonder
they have not been put in the live weight system so not to
incur further wasted feed and bedding costs? If cattle could
be sold in the live weight system the purchasers could buy
what they wanted when they wanted them, rather than trying
to control the price.
Trade is as good as any local centre comparing the quality REMEMBER WE PAY ON THE DAY - not days later or
up to a week later. Why not try us you may be surprised. For
further information please do not hesitate to contact our

PAYMENT IS AVAILABLE ON THE DAY.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
FARM ASSURANCE
Due to the Farm assurance body unable to give us a real time
database or actual up to date information on your assurance status
we rely on YOU the producers to give us the correct information.
Therefore if you present your cattle as farm assured when they are
not this is a misdescription and you are representing your cattle
fraudulently.
When the animal gets to the abattoir they have specific outlets for
these animals and often don’t for nonfarm assured stock so they
deduct massively. This is due to the time and loss of animal to the
batch that was bought for a specific job.
They cannot be returned from an abattoir therefore you are in their
hands. The deduction could be £150.
PLEASE GIVE US THE CORRECT INFORMATION

Further information
Separate holding registers are needed for separate holding Numbers including tack sheep, and regularly filled
in and kept up to date.
Whenever sheep are moved an AML1 form must be filled in and sent off to the relevant local authorities.
Unless the animals have the ability to run back and forth through a gateway or moved regularly within a two
week time frame, then you must note the date this access starts and stops in the Holding book, THIS IS THE
ONLY CASE WHERE BY AN AML1 Form is NOT needed.

The following information is on temporary field heaps. Solid manure such as farmyard manure, can be stored
in temporary field heaps, but they cannot be located:
*Within 10 metres of a surface water or land drain.
*Within 50 metres of a spring, well or borehole
*On land likely to become waterlogged
*On land likely to flood
*In a single position for more than 12 successive months
*In the same place as an earlier heap constructed with in the last two years.
Field heaps can be made on a permeable base other than soil (for example, hardcore) but the conditions in
the bullet above still apply.
To be stored in a temporary field heap, manure must be solid enough to be stacked in a free-standing heap
which does not give rise to free drainage from within the stacked material.
Please ensure you move a TFH after 12 months and to be cleared from that footprint for 2 consecutive years.
This information is based on the guidelines set out by DEFRA and the Environment Agency.
