Solar Cooker – Debate Narrator1: Salaam walekum and a warm greeting from the state of Qatar to all those global students working collaboratively on this unique project In a world of fuel consumption very little action takes place without fuel energy, this is slowly but surely leading to a reduction of the earth’s energy resources. Harvesting natural energy can lead to a great future of energy conservation. With the sun being a prime source of natural energy, it is only practical to take advantage of this free but valuable resource to channelise it into a positive direction. Solar energy, which works using the energy from the sun,is a breakthrough in modern technology. Here now I have two of my student delegates from Qatar Independent Preparatory School, who will debate on the advantages and disadvantages of solar cooking. So over to the first speaker………………. Sp 1.. Thankyou (name) My name is ……….. As we all know that the sun is a free source of natural energy and is totally renewable for as far as thousands of years and in my opinion we must make the maximum use of it. Sp2.. Well! Well!... Do you think that people will take up this new idea which is a big challenge and give up their traditional ways of cooking? Sp1… Why not?(Name) since it cooks healthy food with very less use of oil, saves money, takes away the risks of fire or burns and providing fresh and hot meals. Sp2…Ha! HOT MEALS!!!.. Yes, but can be served only during or shortly after the HOTTEST part of the day…. When people don’t feel like eating a HOT meal as you know cooking using this way takes a long time. Sp1…Yes I agree ,It may take a long time…..but don’t you think it is worth waiting to eat a good, healthy nutritious rich food while you can use the cooking time to do some other household jobs???? Sp2…If otherwise you think it’s a good way of cooking what about it weatherwise? Once we had an experience when we wanted to test our oven ,it was very windy causing the reflective panel to close down often and I don’t think it can be used when it rains or when the weather is cloudy. Sp 1…Well let me put it this way….. This should’nt be an excuse to stop the use of solar cooker because during the bright sunny days the solar energy can be stored in solar panels or cells which can be used later. Narrator2: So my dear listeners the argument will go on and on……The chair has left it to the listeners of this debate to give your opinions in favour of / against Solar cooking
