George Mitchel The following obituary was handed to us by the family: George Mitchel, son of Jacob and Catherine Mitchel, was born February 15, 1855, in Madison township, St. Joseph county, and departed this life at his residence at Bremen, April 25th, 1941, at age of 86 years, 2 months, 10 days. Mr. Mitchel was a member of a family of 12 children, all of whom preceded him in death. Mr. Mitchel was married to Margaret Zimmer on March 25, 1888, and to this union were born six children, four sons and two daughters, all of whom with the widow and mother survive, except one daughter, who died in infancy. The sons are Ivo, Walter, Claude and Arthur; the daughter, Mrs. Jacob (Pearl) Maurer. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Mr. Mitchel after his marriage located on a farm in St. Joseph county where he with his family resided until his retirement as a farmer 23 years ago when he moved to Bremen where he resided until his death. Mr. Mitchel was a hard working man, sincere always having the welfare of his family at heart. He believed in honest dealings with his fellow men. He was a loving husband and father and possessed a fondness for home life in which the common vices of the world had no part. He was always interested in the spiritual welfare of his family and a firm believer in the work of the church, which he always believed was a vital factor in producing citizens of the highest caliber.
