➱ 1FOREIGN LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: This requirement may be satisfied in three ways: (a) by taking six credits
at the intermediate-level or above in Spanish, French, Italian, or German; (b) by taking six credits at the elementary level
of a non-western European language such as, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, or Russian; or (c) by taking six credits of
immersion courses in any language followed by a university-sponsored intercultural travel experience.
Incoming students who have not had the equivalent of six credits of Spanish, French, Italian, or German as determined by
a proficiency exam or who wish to start a new foreign language, must take six credits of elementary foreign language as a
prerequisite to the core foreign language requirements. Elementary foreign language courses may be used as free
electives.
International students requiring three or four English as a Second Language (ESL) courses may use the highest two
courses to satisfy the language requirement or as free electives.
Language credits will not be awarded for a student’s native language.

is adequately prepared for such a course.
➱ 3LABORATORY SCIENCE/TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS: An appropriate laboratory science in astronomy,
biology, chemistry, geology, or physics or a technology course may be taken.
➱
