JOB DESCRIPTION Job Family: Institutional Advancement Job Function: Alumni Relations Job Title: Director, Development Alumni Relations (Medical) Pay Band: 9 FLSA Status: Exempt General Description (Purpose and Function): Develops, implements, and oversees a comprehensive strategic plan designed to raise funds. Responsible for major gifts fundraising from alumni and parents. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Plans, develops, administers and coordinates the alumni and parent programs that foster a high level of participation. Directs and manages the Alumni Association Board, providing strategic oversight and assistance to volunteer leadership on all matters pertaining to the board and association activities. Develops strategic plan for Parents Council, a new initiative designed to provide a higher level of engagement opportunities to parents with the goal of identifying major gift prospects within this donor population. Directs and oversees production of special events such as alumni weekend, medical commencement and educational events. Directs Alumni Association student grants program. Plans and manages a student-alumni mentor program. With support from Advancement Services, monitors and analyzes program data to reveal trends, assesses performance of the alumni and parents programs, provides performance reports to senior administration and undertakes corrective action as appropriate. Identifies prospective donors and funding sources, in conjunction with faculty and staff, and develops cultivation and solicitation plans, involving the aforementioned groups and volunteers, as appropriate. Directs all aspects of alumni relations annual giving including direct mail and e-solicitation programs for annual giving, reunion class gifts, scholarship funds, class endowments, medical parents association and the senior class gift program. In consultation with the Office of Planned Giving, develops a strategic plan to promote planned and estate gifts to the medical alumni and to identify planned gift prospects among medical alumni. Ensures regular communications and stewardship with donors, including re-solicitations, proper acknowledgement of gifts and pledge payments, reporting, visiting, and providing regular information on the progress of the departments. Makes appropriate recommendations to administration, school leadership and volunteer/board leadership concerning their roles and involvement in the identification, cultivation, or solicitation of donor prospects. Facilitates face-to-face interactions with appropriate donors/prospects as needed and appropriate. Maintains communications with colleagues in medical departments, other schools and central development to ensure effective collaboration and synergy in achieving the university’s key fundraising goals and objectives. Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of the university’s needs, both general and specific to various programs and departments. Exercises and contributes to good data management of alumni and parent database records. Utilizes Raiser’s Edge and other university systems to update constituent information in accordance with Raiser’s Edge training and policies and procedures. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Outstanding oral and written communication skills. Ability to be highly organized, creative, energetic, and assertive and exhibit the independent judgment and personal integrity necessary to carry out a senior management role in fundraising. A teamwork oriented approach to colleagues and proven ability to manage people in a positive and constructive environment are essential. Education Requirements (Essential Requirements): Bachelor’s Degree in related field required. Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements): Five years of demonstrated successful experience in major gift fundraising alumni relations and fundraising management required, preferably in higher education or academic medicine.
