Invited Lecture at the Harbin Institute of Technology Shenzhen Graduate School, MSRA 2006 Summer Course on Next Generation Internet Information Processing Technologies 微软亚洲研究院 2006 年新一代互联网信息处理技术暑期研讨班 Topic: Multilingual Spoken Dialog Systems Speaker: Helen MENG, Co-Director, Microsoft-CUHK Joint Laboratory on Human-centric Computing and Interface Technologies Professor, Department of Systems Engineering & Engineering Management, The Chinese University of Hong Kong Abstract: Multilingual spoken language systems present a human-centric modality for humancomputer interaction that resembles human-human interaction. This talk will present an overview of such spoken language systems and their component technologies. Theoretical grounding includes acoustic-phonetics in conversational speech, linguistic features of spoken (natural) language, speech signal processing and pattern recognition. Component technologies include speech recognition, natural language understanding, conversational dialog modeling, natural language generation and textto-speech synthesis. These components are then integrated with various software architectures to facilitate spoken language interactions between human and computer. Background information: This event was chaired by Professor Ming ZHOU of MSRA and Professor Xuan WANG of HIT. There were a total of 9 lectures covering many aspects of Internet information processing, to help new students select their research topics and conduct deep research.
