Press Release, December 2014 - N2 Endodontic Cement Old and proven controversy - but not without The N2 method was developed in the early 1950s, based on the assumption that only a gas was capable of reaching all branches of the root canal system, and named after the Swiss dentist Dr. Angelo Sargenti (1917 – 1999). The antiseptic element of the probably most famous root canal cement N2 is paraformaldehyde. Dr. Robert Teeuwen a German practitioner of the Sargenti technique has performed and documented 16,108 endodontic treatments with N2. Only 5 treatments required more than one appointment! What does the N2 method comprise? No canal rinsing. The use of the reamer as sole root canal instrument. Rubberdam for safety’s sake. The use of the strongly antimicrobial N2 as root canal filling material (the powder contains 5 % formaldehyde, EU approval as medical device 6/1998). Root canal treatment in one appointment. Despite of professorship concerns, N2 has been approved in the EU. Even Sweden has reaccepted the method in 2011. Publications show that newer methods don't deliver better results.
