I can confirm that this is my third consecutive season in the role and I am looking forward to my long service leave in seven more seasons. Now back onto the cricket. I gave the great man Downsy one of the better wraps you could imagine last week and he goes and gets a duck and 0 wickets. Thanks mate. Last week the weather played a part in only one game in Trollope and the same in Wilkins. The forecast for this week is similar and looking at my radar I think play may proceed till tea and then everyone can watch the races from there on. One of the questions the Insider received during the week was what I thought of renaming the top division Trollope and all the other grades under a certain name, tough question but here goes. I think it is a nice idea by the RDCA but what is the criteria? so many great people have given so many great years of service, how do you decide who takes the top grade. Here is my idea, a points system should be in place on the following basis: each post on the forum between April and August when cricket is quiet gets awarded 1 point per post, any person who posts and you can still make sense of it, after 2am on a Thursday night after staying back at the club smashing beers and playing poker gets 2 points per post, any person who has a crack at Eddies posts gets awarded 1 point (so all of us rack up points here), any person who posts their own teams results and includes their own stats (Walter system) gets 3 points, any person who posts about every topic and thinks they know everything about that topic gets 1 point, any person who talks about the possibility of rain on a Monday leading up to the game and asks for it to be called off gets 1 point. Now I have gone back through the records from April last year until now and I am pleased to announce the top grade in the RDCA has been renamed "MAGS" (lucky there is no deduction for lack of commitment to cricket). Wilkins Chirnside Park V Olinda Looking at this game, I can only see one result, Chirnside had their pants pulled down last week by STA and didn't even claim a wicket. Olinda has won the first two matches, albeit only against Mooroolbark and Eastfield. Olinda have a big chance here to start the season off really well at 3-0 and I can't see why this won’t happen. TIP: Olinda in a one dayer next week as the Chirnside oval is terrible Nth Ringwood V Kilsyth Nth Ringwood’s 1st X1 has been very poor and this is hurting the 2nd X1 badly. So far this year they are winless and I can't see things changing too much this week. Kilsyth haven't opened their account yet but surely even they can beat Nth (but I hear they are nervous). I don't really know what to write about this game as I think Nth will struggle all year and Kilsyth will only win 4 games for the year. TIP: Kilsyth Montrose V Ainslie Park Both teams are sitting undefeated on top of the table. Montrose have been fortunate that both games have been 1 dayers as this is their best style. I think the boys on the bottom of the mountain will be doing a rain dance for this weekend as this is their only chance of beating Ainslie. To me, Ainslie look to be the team to beat this year. So far Robbie Arbuckle hasn't fired which means he is getting closer to really hurting some team. Looking at the Montrose bowling attack, this could be the week where he touches them up. TIP: Ainslie Lilydale V Warrandyte Warrandyte has started with a soft draw but you still have to win them. Not sure if Toohey and Walker are playing for Lilydale and this be a huge factor in not only this game, but for their season hopes. In all honesty, I don't really give a stuff about this game as I don't think either team will be around when the real thing happens in March. TIP: Warrandyte unless Toohey plays St Andrews V Eastfield Looking at the results to date this year it looks as if Eastfield can't bat and STA can. Not sure if STA batted that well last week to finish up 0/114 or if Chirnside’s bowling is that bad. Eastfield will need to make more than 113 this week if they are to be a chance here. One thing I will do is acknowledge Eastfield’s commitment to make the jump this year without taking home the flag in Newey last season, but unfortunately I think a lot of teams will feast on them. TIP: St Paisley Warranwood V Mooroolbark Looking at this game it just reminded me of what a joke this grading system is. Out of the 6 games happening this weekend, only 2 of them are worthwhile or competitive. I will go early and say only Ainslie or Warranwood can win the flag and the rest are wasting their time. TIP: Warranwood MAGS (Trollope) East Ringwood V Nth Ringwood This is an early preview of the wooden spoon match up. East are up for the first year and looking to get the kids playing this level of cricket consistently whilst Nth are just stinky. Not too sure what will happen here but for Nth Ringwood’s sake they must win otherwise they could be back in Wilkins by season’s end. TIP: East Ringwood Croydon Nth V Sth Warrandyte Croydon Nth came out last week and went Bang against Templeton. On the other hand, Sth Warrandyte’s batting was fickle which tends to be the case away from the postage stamp. This week I'm not sure if Nth can produce the same effort but Sth are batting away from the postage stamp so anything is possible. TIP: Sth Warrandyte Templeton V Wantirna Sth On paper this should be a belter. So far this year, Sth are 2-0 but there are a couple of names in that line up like Stow and Webb that don't look up to being Trollope premiership players. Sth do have the top class cattle to cover these blokes but in the crunch games weak links get found out and that can be the difference. In saying that, Templeton put in an absolute shocker last week and were belted against a team who I think are bottom four material. TIP: When in doubt stick with Templeton Mooroolbark V Bayswater Park Interesting game coming up here. Mooroolbark did a number on the fancied Norwood whilst the Sharks somehow came from the clouds and knocked over Ranges. Mooroolbark still have Ricci in the line up along with Ross and Grigg and to me that is some class. Looking at the Sharks, I notice a few of blokes like Ben (I can't add up %) Beech, Garoni and Eagles who I doubt are good enough to compete against the better teams. TIP: Mooroolbark Norwood V Ranges The Ranges folded like a pack of cards last week against the Sharks and blew a chance to be 2-0 early. I did mention last week that Boshier back in the team will cause conflict and the word out of the Ranges is unless he earns his place, he could be in the twos. Unfortunately, he is Spencer's little pet and he is no chance of getting dropped. Norwood on the other hand got comprehensively hammered by the Barkers last week. I have had a good look at the Norwood batting lineup and like years gone by, the top order just doesn't do it for me. TIP: Norwood, as Boshier is selected Sth Croydon V Wonga Park Wonga look to be one of the teams which will play deep into March this season. Sth on the other I am not so sure about. I notice this game is being played at Glen Park Reserve and to my knowledge this ground is generally very fast and conducive to large scores. I know Wonga enjoy batting on fast decks and this will be the difference this week. TIP: Wonga Park [Back] Junior Cricket Tonight 29th Jan Submitted: Fri 29th Jan 2016 Junior cricket tonight will go ahead. Players are to report to grounds.
