Plymouth Arts Centre Established in 1948, Plymouth Arts Centre is a nationally-renowned centre for contemporary art, independent cinema and creative learning. We want to share in making Plymouth a vibrant cultural city, engaging and stimulating our visitors and local community with our dynamic arts programme and the warmth of our welcome. We played host to the British Art Show in 2011, the Jerwood Drawing Prize, along with internationally-recognized artists such as Bob and Roberta Smith, Turner Prizenominated Luke Fowler and award-winning photography in 2014 and more recently, award-winning photographer, Gideon Mendel. We have ambitions to expand our programme to reach out and excite, challenge and inspire and engage as many people, including families, as possible, including those who would not normally participate in cultural activities and the visual arts. Why get involved with us? It provides a unique, local venue with a welcoming atmosphere for entertaining guests. The team behind the scenes have also made sure that we are getting the most exposure possible. We will be delighted to continue to support them". Cost of Exhibition Sponsorship £350 (exc VAT) Ellard and Johnstone 28 March – 10 May 2015 Everything Made Bronze, a film installation with an architectural theme, makes compelling use of one of Carlo Scarpa's buildings, the Gipsoteca gallery in Northern Italy. Shot using a static camera, the film follows the play of light in the Gipsoteca over a number of days which is in constant flux as the sun is either veiled in cloud or appears suddenly from behind the nearby Dolomite Mountains to bathe the space in a warm gilded luminescence. Cost of Exhibition Sponsorship Ridout and Masterson £500 (exc VAT) 1 May to 14 June (part of Plymouth History Festival) Tanks and Tablecloths is a new work which features artefacts from the Devonport Naval Heritage Centre, not generally seen by the public. The exhibition looks at the links between military and domestic life using tableware, rations and photographs. The artists will make new work to interpret these artefacts. Cost of Exhibition Sponsorship £500 (exc VAT) Matthew Houlding 22 May – 2 August Inspired by architectural forms and models, modernism and a childhood spent in East Africa, Houlding's sculptures investigate the relationships between intersecting materials and planes with contrasting geometry framed by bold, primary coloured Perspex Cost of Exhibition Sponsorship £500 (exc VAT) Creative Activities for Children We work with children from 0 to 16 through our Bringing in Baby screenings, Creative Play, Making Space and schools programmes, unleashing their creative potential and enabling disadvantaged families to bond and have confidence to play together – this summer visited Barne Barton, Stonehouse and Efford, thanks to a fundraising campaign. There is clear evidence that cultural learning produces positive educational and social outcomes, helping children learn more effectively, developing cognitive skills and inspiring new ways of learning – helping people aspire to and achieve more. We need to raise money to run more of these types of activities and to buy the supplies we need for these, for example, £20 pays for the acrylic paint for a screen-painting workshop, or £125 pays for an artist to lead a Schools Workshop. Children’s activities cost £225 each to run and can take up to 10 children PAC Home PAC Home is our professional development network for artists, cited by a-n artists’ newsletter as one of the best examples in the country. Launched in 2012, we now work with over 40 young artists supporting them at a critical stage, post-University, to further their careers. We offer critical review, residencies and exchanges and advice on subjects such as writing funding applications and where to find exhibition opportunities. We need to raise money so that emerging artists can continue to work in the South West and contribute to creating a vibrant cultural economy here. Artists in Plymouth consistently tell us that they feel professionally isolated and would like more opportunity to interact with and learn from other artists nationally, but cannot afford to do this. We would like to offer a limited number of Bursaries to our PAC Home members to enable our talented artists the opportunity to expand their knowledge and enhance their practice. We will also run feedback sessions for them to share their knowledge with the wider group and build confidence in public speaking. The cost of each Bursary is £225 which will pay for travel and accommodation and entry into arts events such as Frieze in London in May 2015.
